  • How to mate a W58 to a 1UZFE(Toyota/Lexus)

I know alot of guys that simply say "F" the GS400, SC400 and many other 1UZFE powered Toyota/Lexus cars simply because they never were offered in a five speed manual. Well I have good news, you can easily turn that lazy fuel efficiant V8 auto into a torquey and very fun V8 five speed manual. If you have the coin you can even upgrade and get the Getreg six speed to fit as well(alot more money and headache though). I bought my 1995 SC400 almost a year ago and knew but didn't really care that it is considered the poor man's Supra and that it shared the same ability to have the 2JZ and be one hell of a car. I had different plans for it because I **** having a cookie cut car, one that everyone has done in Import Tuner or Super Street, so I did some research and found the bits I would need to make it happen. Now I will show you pretty much step by step how to perform the transformation on your own 400 series car. Enough chatter on to pics and tech talk.

    Clutch pedal.

    New slave cylinder

    1UZFE prepped W58

TRD short throw shifter on MKIV shift adapter.

    Exedy Sports Tuff Clutch Kit.

    SC300 shift bezel

How to install a clutch pedal......the right way.
This kit is essential, makes it so much cleaner and its easy to use.

First pre-drill holes for your two mounting brackets and one for your clutch linkage and boot.

install the punch with cookie cut bit inside the car and flat bit on the outside and tighten till it pulls through and looks like this.

    Install master cylinder

route linkage through pedal bracket and install nuts

route the hydraulic line to the transmission.

Remove center console and undo all connsectors to the shifter

Lift the car via jack stands, lift or whatever you have.

    Remove exhaust.

    Remove drive shaft

Now you can remove the bottom bolt for the shifter

Disconnect electrical connections, hydro lines and lower the transmission

Everything runs fine, the engine is running a bit rich, but I hope to have that fixed when I get home from the desert, I had to run a NSS cancel and reverse lights are inop for the moment, nothing a pressure switch on the shifter and some relays cant fix though. And the speed sensor is off a bit but I look at the GPS for speed anyways since the wheels threw it off before.

Awesome! only thing that bugs me is the uneven pedals in the pic. That'd drive me nuts.

That pic was taken with no fluid in the clutch master cylinder so I couldnt adjust it yet. It sits much closer now. lol
