  • RS Bolts on Rc090/Style 5?

So I have searched up and down and have not found a concrete answer on is it safe and possible to use BBS RS bolts on the Rc090 Style 5 Wheels. I have heard people put there 2 cents in on forums saying yes you can use them but with no evidence. I ordered m7x32 RS bolts off eBay and after putting them in I've noticed that there is quite a bit of play where the splined section is supposed to be on the style 5 bolts. Safe? Will they line up correctly when torqued down? Anyone had experience with this?

the shank where the style 5 bolt slots into the lip/barrel stock is quite large in diameter, closer to that of a m8 assembly bolt…

with that said, not sure what barrel or if you're converting to 3 piece, but the main forces on a wheel if properly built and the face is tight in the lip and barrel, the forces being displaced are not on the bolts at all. most of the wheels forces are on the center bore and on the bore (face mating up with face hole in lip and barrel).. the bolts are just there to help keep even tightness across the wheels diameter. which is why they are only typically torqued to 28ftlb (slightly more than hand tight).

so in other words, if the parts are tight, the bolts should be fine provided the head on the bolt and nut is large enough to clearly cover the holes..

again, this is all based on a face being installed properly and being seated properly. people tend to think that they can take any face and mount it in any configuration… and this is not true. shearing stress on the bolts.

Yea I was kinda under the same impression, that they are basically just to keep the wheels tight together and the bolts aren't actually under a great deal of stress. They are just 2 piece so no conversion to a 3 piece. The faces/centers are freshly powder coated so they fit pretty damn snug into place anyway, I was just seeking some input. Thanks for the info!

I used RS bolts on Style 19s (same barrel as the Style 5s) and have never had any problems. I daily the car they are on.
