  • Vw Scirocco Mk1 GT 1979

I also have topic for my 2009 rocco but i dont want to write in the same topic because i feel it's more fun read them this way.You can find it here

So im building 1979 Scirocco. Little bit history first. So this was my uncles car when he was young, originally it was silver but has been painted blue (dont know if it's oem colour). Somewhere in the late 90' the engine broke down and he fixed it but never drove it again. 8years ago he gave it to my brother and said that if you fix it, it will be yours. But he's never been that much in cars so it never got fixed. A month ago we made a deal, we'll do it together and have joint ownership.

So thats enough for the history. This is how it looked when we pulled it to garage.

Next thing we did was this body dolly.

We desided that original 1.6 engine is not going to be used so pulled this audi 100 4point fuel injection engine and bought dolly to it.

We found guy who had two Sciroccos so drove there and looked trough parts what we need. We found this interior and it's in really good shape! Just need to find somebody to upholster seats.

I also bought the rare bronze tint windows from the same guy.

The project were supposed to start last winter but i bought the new rocco so it slowed down but the new rocco is almost ready so time to work on this full time!

      So finally it has begun!

The motor has been put to pieces and it's waiting ride for machining. Work order is proper wash, sodablasting, machining and then new paint.

First thing when we got this home garage was to take pictures with the new rocco.

So that welded up i decided to go work on engine bay. Taking off every attachments..

      The before.

First thing i did was to take the battery place off. Battery will find it's place on trunk.

are you going for a oem engine bay, or is everything going to be cleaned?
seeing your new scirocco i have no doubt that this old one will turn out great.

Looking trough internet this is what oem engine bay looks like.. I think it's going to be almost perfectly shaved. I'll hide as many wires that is possible and just trying to get it looking good.

Okay some progress. Pretty happy with the speed everything is happening. If i continue like this im sure that i'll drive with this on summer 2017.

So the engine bay is now ready. Firstly i was thinking of doing this.

But then it would have been really difficult to fill my standards with that. And really i think on old car it's enough that the engine bay is just painted good and hidden wires with clean painted engine.

So it looks like this now. Ready for soda blasting, filler and paint. All the holes is filled and the up "nipple" on the two bars is shaved. After the photo i filled couple of more holes. Now there is just holes for clutch, brake, throttle and steering.

So now this is the part where the grill comes really handy. Now that almost every weld is done i painted the bottom on rust stopping paint. 3 layers of paint and now when it's dried i will add underbody protection (bitum..?) No point of grinding and filling it, the only person that sees it is the MOT guy every year so rust stopping is more important to me.

Next thing is doing notches on both sides. I think i'll overkill it just to be sure and looking to the future this will have airflift suspension some day.

Notched up and underbody sealed. Not too long until it's ready for paint..

Thank you guys! The first version of the engine bay will not be that clean.. I know it already. The 1.8 k-jetronic is probably quite hard to get looking clean. But i'll do my best with it! Just going to buy some filler paint and hopefully it will be filler painted this weekend!

Lets hope that i will be!

Great news, the engine bay is painted! So happy with the color. Did everything myself in our garage with a help of my dad.

First there was lots of filling..

                            Then few coats of primer

I love the color! Vw L20C so nice

I need bit of help with k-jetronic fuel pump and also with rear brakes. If you can help me shoot me a PM. Preferrably give me your number so i can add you on whatsapp, but talkin here is ok too.
