Another project.
Another day.
I got this car for 300 bucks, it runs and drives... It needed a brake line and a top. AND a full restoration.
I've never seen an AMC Rambler American Convertible on the road, or at any show locally or ever. No one wants these things, you can't find parts for them. The people that do have parts for them hoard them. The AMC forums are full of muscle car dudes, and no one gives a rats ass about this thing because quite frankly they are slow, and in some peoples minds ugly.
Needless to say I'm going to BAG this Rambler over time, and make it " kool "
First step was to disassemble the car. Blast it.
Metal work
Epoxy Prime
Bodywork
Polyester Prime
Bodywork
2K High Build Prime
Bodywork
2k High Build Prime
BLOCK
2k High Build Prime
Remove Doors, fenders, trunk and hood to jam them.
Install them to test fit again.
Remove them to jam body.
Block & Prime AGAIN
Pressure Wash & Block with 800
Paint
Mask for two tone.
Paint pearl white two tone
Clear
Sit for two days
Block with 1,000
Flow coat the clear.
Polish
Everyone needs a starting point. Here she is in all she splendor WET, and from 10 feet, through a camera she looks pretty good.
Zoom in and find some horror
Holes
So after stripping the VOLVO completely with a DA. I'll never do that again.
Can't buy the chrome moldings new or find decent used ones...
Surprises
Sorry tried to take a picture at the same time.
General shaping of the door
Patches all around, there's no replacement panels available anywhere for this.
First test fit...
First prime & Block
Parts trimmed
Fitment again with the body color jammed
Jammed engine bay
Steel wheel love <3
Little preview of the color on the dash, with it's pearl white two tone accent. My friend shot this with a real camera and a filter to try and capture the color in the sun.
Two coats of base.
Need two more for proper coverage
Mask for two tone.
Clear it
This is unpolished - Flow coat
Over 250 hours so far into this car, and the interior isn't done. It's at the upholster getting redone...
All of the trim is in the process of being gone over, and cleaned. Most of the chrome and stainless trim that the car had, has overspray from the previous restorations, and owners...
Today I'm installing the dash, and polishing the car. More pictures later.
