  • Roundie build: finally

So I am currently building my e28 that I've been anticipating and planning for years now since the first e28 I had. So I have finally flipped enough cars and a motorcycle to get myself to be able to financially afford building the e28 to the caliber that I have planned and one of the major aspects of my build is putting the s50 from a 1995 e36 m3 that i have in it but my plans have been shattered a bit...

On Saturday we found an e30 for a good price about an hour away from my house so I called the guy and started to hurry down there so I could get it before it was sold. I went a picked up our trailer that was at a friends house, and after hooking it up and driving for a bit it felt jerky and loose but I brushed it aside and kept driving...

After 45 minutes of driving at about 80mph the whole time and about a half mile from the guy's house I went through an intersection at about 35mph and hit a bump and the trailer popped off and jolted the truck and then snapped the chains safety chains...

And then our full steel trailer was free to do whatever it wanted. Unfortunately for me it didn't want to skid to a stop and park safely parallel to the curb... Instead It decided to violently scrape and spark across the road barely missing a brand new mustang and tried to park under a crappy Ford Explorer that is probably worth $1500... It caused probably about $500 in junk yard parts worth of damage but the owne started freaking out and now that's going through insurance. There goes $1500 for my deductible...

And then we decided to still go get the e30 once we got the trailer out from under the Explorer... After picking up the e30 that was way more beat up that it was supposed to be we started driving and the truck wouldn't go into 3rd or 4th. We looked under to find that a transmission line was severed and then cooked the tranny... And there goes another $2500 for a tranny and I am losing probably 10 hours of putting it in truck.

The money is not as punishing as the time. Because I am working full time and going to school full time I had planned on doing the s50 swap during Christmas break but now I will be fixing sheet metal and some stuff on the trailer and putting a tranny in the truck....

Which leads me to why I am making a build thread for an 02...
After I finish the e28 I had planned on selling it and putting the money into my 2002 but since my profit margin is the same as leaving the m30 vs swapping the s50 I have decided to start putting some more attention and money towards the 2002 now instead of the motor swap.

I have every aspect of this build planned out but here is the basics:
    Catuned coil overs
    m42 swap+ turbo

The rest you will have to watch and see.

    Info on the car:
It is a 1969 2002 shell that I picked up from a body technician that got about half the car done and painted and the rest is up to me.

I started on some body work. Started on the trunk lid because it's in the worst condition. Had to shrink the metal a lot And got some good rust repair in it. Other than red panels there no rust on the car:

And that is as far as I am for body work on it

I don't know which one but one of these 318is' is going to be the donor car. Will be using the whole drivetrain. Motor, tranny, driveshaft, and diff.

Some more picture of the 2002 in Its current state:
I am assuming that it rusted at the bottom of the windshield and rear windshield so it was cut out so I need to find a parts car I can cut it out of and weld into mine

Awesome car, look forward to watching this. What is the plan for getting the diff to work? What type of turbo and setup are you thinking? Will be an awesome car!

For the diff set up I'll be cutting the diff mount bracket off the e30 subframe and weld it onto the 2002 subframe. It'll open my diff size options a ton and I can pick up e30 diffs for a decent price.
As far as the turbo set up....
I really don't know. Most likely going to make custom piping set up. I don't know about tuning, what ecu, or what turbo. I won't need a very big turbo because I am only aiming for around 200 HP. Luckily I have my dad and a couple friends that are way more knowledgeable about boosting cars so I don't have to be haha
