Alright so my second dip into the BMW pool.. I originally found this car on craigslist a year or so ago.. I sent the posting to a friend of mine who sent it out to a few friends and one buddy of mine picked up the car.. At that time the 28 had been "kissed" into a guard rail by the original owner. Hood, core support and fender were fucked up. First friend sells it to another buddy of mine who works at a dealership and has the core straightened an a replacement fender hung at the dealerships body shop.
I sold off my E30 and was in the market for a new project and my dealership friend wanted to free up some cash so I picked her up for a cool grand.
Friend sent me some pics and I realized I needed to pick up this pile:
They cleaned it up for me.. The pretty side
The not so pretty side
Pretty right?!... Anyway so I hit up my friend who bought it first and asked him how it ran.. He simply replied it runs like a Raped Ape. I was like like no fucking clue what that means but probably a good thing so I went the next day fired it up ran amazing, drove it around the lot and bought it. Cant go wrong with a 87 535i with a 5 speed manual for $1,000 bucks right..
List of stuff it has on it that I know of..
- Custom gay cold air intake
- Z3M short throw
- New Stage ? Clutch
- Full Stainless Exhaust
- More stuff I'm forgetting
Will upload a running video shortly.. Anyway..
Had another friend follow me out to MD so we could bring it home.. It had a shit battery and we legit sat at 711 with the battery charger for 25 mins and got enough juice in the battery to get her home... Good times.
The car came with a bunch of parts that needed to be put back on so I got on that the first weekend..
Front Grill and Valence Installed:
Tucked that Diving Board:
Installed the new hood and fogs and lined up the gaps as best I could:
It finally started to look like a real car.. And was running good as ever so went ahead and ordered these: BC Racing Coil-overs
Also ***** the steering wheel so bought this: KEY!S Racing Wheel
Then it kind of took a massive shit.. Center drive shaft bearing crapped out an it became sketchy as balls, and then it began running like total shit. So, dropped it off at a friends shop to have the coils welded-in mods > maintenance right?! He also installed the new driveshaft bearing.. Picked it up and it was still running like shit but driving well.
So began to try to crap shoot the car and find out why she was running like crap, replaced some intake bellows and a few vacuums still nothing.. Pulled the plugs and found this..
Ok normal right..
Next one..
Bought some of these..
PROBLEM SOLVED! The Ape was back.
Ok so now had it running well, and had coils on so needed wheels. Found a set of chrome Roadstars for $50 in Virginia Beach had a fellow W124 buddy bring them to h2o for me.
They were heavily pitted and corroded but perfectly straight and rash free:
Had a few people tell me they weren't worth saving or that they wouldn't powder or blast them yada yada yada.. So I broke out the grinder and went to work.. Smooth as balls..
Painted them some sparkle tar black and had tires mounted:
Boom, rear wheels taken car of, tried to hunt down two more but that was a pain in the ass and these are my winter wheels so decided to go with the mismatched look.. Got a set of four 8.5" ET15 contour reps for $200 on eBay:
Front wheels acquired, gave two to my little bro so he can have a square set of contours for his e36.. All of them together..
***** the black replacement fender and bondo door an other fucked up spots so bought some rattle cans for $18.99 and went to town:
Next I mounted the wheels and dialed in the coils..
Preload setting were wayyy too soft..
Cranked those puppies up and "rolled" my fenders with a crow bar and a hammer.. Had it finally drivable:
Cleaned it up:
Took it to a meet, found one good pic of it:
More to come in the future, C&C welcome.
