Mark Tingey’s ’89 911 Carrera 4 clearly has a lot of draw. Its white-on-white styling nestles it comfortably somewhere in between the 80s and 90s, and its perfect paint, stature, and presence command a bit of respect. Catering a bit to all tastes but the bland, it’s a 964 we can all happily envision in our own garage. In fact, Mark’s story with this 911 began just that way.
It was exactly a year ago when we last saw Olli Grimme’s 2002. Following Wothersee in Austria, our friend and photographer Mike Crawat met up with Olli to photograph his incredible ride. Unsurprisingly, it was a crowd favorite, becoming one of our most popular features of 2017. Previously perched atop a set of BBS RSs, we figured it all but impossible to improve upon.
The sun crested the mesas bright and early, and the occasional shuffle and burble of a truck passing on the nearby trail hurried the morning along. Our excitement was high: Day Five was underway. The day itself didn’t have huge plans; we were several hours south of our eventual destination, and for better or worse, it was the one day of the trip we knew we’d be pounding pavement.
When BMW introduced the E30 Touring back in the ’80s, they combined sport and utility to create a new wave of European wagons that were nimble, relatively quick, and nice to look at. It is no wonder then, that it’s successor, the E36, would get it’s own Touring model.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we found ourselves trackside at 2017’s KW Shakedown. Hosted by our friends at KW Suspension, the Shakedown event was born as a private day at the track for the KW circle of friends and family to enjoy some pressure-free track time to fine tune, diagnose, or just have fun on the Streets of Willow.
