1999 Audi A8 (d2) Timeline, Build, Picture Dump

It's been a slow evolution for the car, so I wanted to create a thread to keep track of the work that has been and for what is coming (lots).

Car when purchased:


After coilovers, wheels and tons of maintenance
Wheels are BBS RS 862 (OEM wheels from an audi A6)


Imported an OEM European market bumper


Added an OEM Alcantara Headliner



Added OEM D2 S8 Recaro seats (alcantara inserts)



Custom Big Brake Setup
6 Piston Calipers from a Porsche Cayenne, custom mounting hardware, 320mm Rotors




Fitted some winter shoes. OEM 19" Bentley Wheels/ Tires



As she sits today.


I havent worked on or driven the car in about a year. Ive been traveling extensively and just settled down in a house with massive 3 car workshop garage.
Plans for upcoming work to be completed by the end of the year.
Convert to 6 speed manual (audi 01e swap) I already have all of the parts, just needed space to do it.
Build a 4 point roll bar
Install adjustable control arms
Respray the entire car, same color
Dual exhaust, race cats, long tube headers

Car is out of storage and in my new workshop. Build will now continue...


First task, replace sheared trans mount.


As soon as that is done, body work and full vinyl wrap.

Started Wrapping the car. It's my first time, so going to take a while. Filling small dings and scratches now. going to strip the car of all lights and trim to make it easier.

Color: Black Brushed Aluminum

Wrapping chrome trim with chrome wrap. the aluminum is pretty oxidized.

Trim piece used to test elasticity of vinyl.

So I started prepping the body for wrapping, when the influence of this site took over. I decided I wanted to go more raw looking.....so I am now stripping it to bare aluminum. This model A8 is made of aluminum, so once stripped Ill have some options...cleared coated matte aluminum, patina the aluminum and clear coat, or possibly wrap if it looks like shit naked.

I expect to have it bare within the next week.

Been researching chemical stains that will achieve a specific patina on the bare aluminum.

Hood and Trunk are bare. Im playing around with paint and sanding to try and get the look I want....getting close.
