  • BMW e28 535i Touring

So, i guess would be rude not to do a buildthread here seeing as a picture of the car has been circling arond the social media.

This all started when i spotted a topic on a local bme forum and i brought up the quite rare touring up and someone posted an 6 year old comment from some random forum and contacted the guy and he had this car still and had started working on it in the past month so i was just in time, i wisited the guy and a month later went to pick it up, after selling parts of my old e28 v8 project.

    Histoy of the car

BMW never made a touring from the factory but ordered at least this one to be shown in the frankfurt autoshow since they wanted to find out if there was a market for an estate model and in the e34 it was offered then. This is to my knowing the first ones to be built and i´m told this was at displayed at the 1987 frankfurt autoshow.

This left the factory as an 525 and was made an 535i with m30b35 + Hartge headers and painted diamondswartch. Now it has been painted cosmoswartch, wich in my mind is a lot better color.

(some of this is hearsay and things the last owner told me so i´m not 100% everything is correct)

There are two kinds of touring

    Oldenhof (prefacelift touring)

    Schluz (facelift malli)

    Progress

    Moar pictures here

F30 M Performance brakes, bolt on, didn´t fit with a 16" wheel, lets see if they fit with a 17" wheel.

16" OZ Futuras, with stainless steel lips, will be made an 9.5" and 10.5" set, will probably sell them though and get a set of 17"

The rear seat has been changed and an e30 seat wich can be folded has been put allready by the last owner, i need to just tweak it a litlebit and finish off the mounts.

And the fawourite part, putting the wiring back in...

    [img]http://leksi.kuvat.fi/kuvat/e28%20Touring/IMG_9702.JPG?img=1280/img]

This was cut for some reason

Does somoena have good pictures as how the wires go inside the car??

    Some tinting on the lights

Some bits and pieces need to be acuired, AC compressor, black glowe box

New exhaust with one silencer wil be fitted

    Some sandblasting for the parts

Thingking of getting rid of the shadowline parts and putting on chrome parts

rear windows need to be custom made, since they were glued on and broke when the car was prepped for paint

And to finish of with the picture that some of you may have seen

    To be continued... *8)

I can't believe how rare this is. Is this actually a one-off?

Super excited to see progress on this.

Also +1 for the Chrome trim, I'd keep the entire trime chrome except for the actual pillars themselves. Especially on a black car.

No they did make a few of these, nobody seems to know the exact number, 20-30 perhaps?

Yeah, got my chrome bumpers out, need to just polish them and mount them, and change all the trim on the car

This is mad man, the rarity is crazy.

No doubt it'll be compared to Halfdan Vatn's one, but thats purely cause of their rarity.

A quick google image of E28 Touring has showed me some nice gems however.

The day I see an E30 Sport Combi and an E28 Touring is the day I shall be a happy man however

But bloody hell man your one sits perfectly!

EDIT - Also heres a cool pic I found

That's pure treasure right there! Good luck with the project!
As a hint: I think it's possible to redo the e30 rear pop-up windows to fit the Hofmeister's kink, then you can put on the seal from the same application and enjoy a pop-up window wagon!
Can I ask you for some detailed photos of the rear hatch, please?
"You could roll an E30 in a BMW showroom today and people would think:
Well, they finally got the 1 series right!"

                          3.0 L e30 ground up build
