Anyone actually listen to lyrics these days?
I can't even tell you how many debates i got in to on e46f about real hip hop and people tell me fucking 50 cent and eminem.
does anyone here still listen to good music? obviously my music isnt good to everyone but I like hearing other peoples opinions on good hip hop music (i listen to literally everything, but this thread is focused on hip hop.)
there are a lot of good hip hop underground, that actually has meaning and doesnt talk about fucking killing people and toot it and boot it type bullshit.
Binary Star
Atmosphere
sage francis
OLD SCHOOL gym class heroes.
unknown prophets
ect
what about everyone else? post up some shit or videos on what you think hip hop is.

Mos Def is the shit and I really like Talib Kweli too
And as far as Eminem goes, he's one of the few newer guys I can actually listen to. I like Despicable pretty good, He flows over Beamer Benz or Bently's beat really well IMO.

I like some of The Pharcyde too. I like their song "Passing Me By."
Also pretty much anything by Brother Ali.

Anything more focused on beats as opposed to that in which is more focused on who talks the most dumb shit about the other person that try's to talk the most shit.
The entire Duck Down records group is real Hip Hop, but they do how ever act kinda hard.
I dont listen to Hip Hop much anymore cause frankly there isnt much out there and what is out is pretty underground which I dont have the time to find anymore. So, to answer the question I honestly dont listen to the lyrics anymore when I do listen to it. Im not part of that culture so I dont relate as easily as I do to metal music. I do how ever listen to it more for the relaxing beats real Hip Hop music brings.
Now a days I listen to compilations like Sound Bombing and Lyricist Lounge. Sums it all up in one disc, or a series of them at least .
Even the makers of said music are confused these days so I rarely bother with the argument. Most Def talks shit about rappers and claims to be a Hip Hop MC in one song but claims to be one of the best Rappers in another.

Its the Urban beats like these that get me excited when I hear a real Hip Hop song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Caf...eature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwwhwUuXSFI
Master Fuol has a bit of that trouble making mouth but hes a good musician. I feel comfortable categorizing him under Hip Hop. I like when " MC's " reminisce over things.
Another good example of that Urban ambint like beat is Tribe Called Quests Love Movement album.
