  • Space Invader: 1990 Citroen BX build

This one should be interesting for most of you, since these were never available and even here in the UK/Europe they aren't modified much.

The body style is really love/****, but it has an Ace in the hole...

    ...That's Right, Factory air ride.

There is less than an inch ground clearance on completely stock suspension.

Anyway, A little history on the car. I had been thinking about picking on of these up for a while since I needed a fun daily whilst my 89' Jetta long term build is taking shape.

About a month ago I spotted this on ebay, It's only done 66k miles which is literally nothing for cars which are known to pass half a million miles.

The shell is in great shape, Its got no rust and I havent found a single dent yet however the paint will need some attention since its crazed on some of the panels.

Its a 1.9 NA diesel with circa 75hp, not exactly fast, but this engine is ridiculously reliable so it'll stay for a while.

The interior is in near perfect shape and has the best set of seats available in this car, very similiar to Recaro C classics.

The equipment level is pretty good, electric windows and sunroof but manual mirrors?

Excited to see where this goes. I've always thought Citroens were so cool with their adjustable suspension and overall weirdness.

factory mono-wiper, this car is just full of 80s.

Here is another angle to give you a rough idea of the ride height.

This little lever beside the hand brake is the ride height control.

My plans are just to catch up some maintenance.

Then throw the BBS michael Schaumacher steering wheel out of my jetta in.

Im going to probably do some kind of exhaust, most likely just a resonator delete and upsweep in stainless.

I also picked these up for it:

They are Image Billet 18s, specs are 15x7 whilst facemounted, offset around 30.

Two of the lips were beyond repair but the other two were pretty much fine, Im going to sandwhich mount a pair using the two good lips and run those 8s in the back.

Right now im planning on probably buying 2.0" lips for the other two and running 9s in the front.

Here's one facemounted using a junk lip.

They have hydro-pneumatic suspension, so Its pretty much a combination of hydraulics and bags

Right now the suspension is completely stock, I think Im going to have to change the pump at some stage since when it gets up to temp it gets stuck at whichever ride height you have it set on. It doesnt bother me a great deal since I leave it on the lowest setting anyway.

I would like to get the front down a little more, Im probably going to use some adjustable top mounts, that way i can add some camber too. I may also relocate the lower strut mounts.

I'd like to end up having the front arch sit on the lip with the suspension on its lowest setting.

I figure an inch and a bit drop shouldnt be too hard once i make some changes.

It really is, these photos are whilst its parked up, once the engine is running it rises around an inch on the lowest setting. The crazy part is when you see it on its maximum ride height, 4x4 status is no joke.

There is actually a 16v petrol version which had rear flares but IMO they mess with the lines even more.

These cars are just so neat. The factory steering wheel is my favorite part about this style of Citroen. but those seats are magnificent.

This is a series 2 car, so the steering wheel is kinda chubby compared to the series one. If I can ever find a series one steering wheel, or even a complete dash swap Ill buy it in a heartbeat.

                              It looks like this:
