  • Schwebby's VW MK3 Donk Build.

Hello stancey mcfitment fam. My name is Sean...I am from Columbus, OH. I decided I would start one of these since I am always bored at work. I will try my best to keep it current. Although a lot of progress has already been made. So we will fast forward to when I got the car.

I bought it pretty much stock aside from nearly mint leathers, wood grain wheel and Kamei ducts. It really needed a lot of attention though. Especially to the drivetrain and suspension.

Here is how I got it.

Then it sat for many months because I still had this. Unfortunately I did not have the time or money for both.

I eventually sold the MK4 and was able to get the ball rolling. My first task was swap out the door panels since I had some from a GLX collecting dust.

I failed to take any pictures after the swap......

Anyway...here comes the cool stuff. The motor in the car seemed to be leaking everywhere and the transmission sounded like crap.

So I just decided to go buy a complete drop out.

Now I was only left with around 2 weeks to get the motor in and the car presentable for h2oi.

And in goes the new one.

I am starting to lose track of the order all these things happened, but oh well. At some point I bought wheels....

I then bought some parts for those wheels.

Then with some help I got the wheels put together and tires mounted.

Oh and I also bought some euro bumpers since my front was an OEM rep with molded lip and the rear was was trashed. Only pics I have before installing..

I also bought some new ducts. One of my old ones broke.

    Oh and some tail lights

Then I was finally able to get the motor running somewhat decent. So I decided to replace all the brakes, put on my coils and mount the wheels.

Here is the end result. 1 day before leaving for h2oi and still more to do. FML.

I drove it to work the following morning and all seemed to be okay.

The fitment just needed a little adjustment.

Alright...now we fast forward a day and we are in Ocean City Maryland! Surprisingly the car made it there without a a single problem. Here are some pics from the week.

Now this was a miracle....the car made it back to Ohio in one piece too!

So I washed it and took a picture

and drove it to take another picture

Then I heard about #fitmentfriday and took this picture.

After all of those pictures my friend Nick came and took some pictures when it was dark.

        Look back at it.

well this is the part where she goes into hibernation. Her name is Vicky btw.

but first let's take a closer look at these beauties

And discuss as to why I let them sit out in this for 2 months.

Don't worry though...I never drove it once the salt went down. I bought this gem for that

Well eventually I was able to get the car inside for the real "build" part of this thread. So out come the motor again.

Because I bought this dirty thing.

Figured I might as well go all out while I'm in there.

Fortunately most of the bay and body work is not being done by me. That would not be a good end result.

So...things started to move along pretty fast. Within a couple days pretty much all the holes were welded on this side and put down a coat of all metal.

          Sanded all that down

And then got started on the driver side

While all of this was going down...my girlfriend decided to put in work on her MK3 too. It needed quite a bit of body work and went in for a respray. Here are a couple pics I was able to snap. I am excited to see it all put back together.

Oh and here are some pics of my best friends car. I am sure many of you here know him. The bay was done by the same guy doing mine.

            Here is the car.

Okay, now back to my car. The firewall is out and all the holes are welded/smoothed

I also thought it would be a good idea to strip my sound deadening.

But as you can see, there is some rust to repair.

The bay is moving along. Just some final touches need done

Got a chance to cut out the cancer this past weekend. Not too bad compared to most MK3's in this region.

I also had the chance wire wheel and undercoat most of the underside not being repaired. Probably needs another coat of paint or touched up in some areas.

Removing the factory undercoat and seam sealer was not fun.

Did a little frame notch and broke a drill in the process. Looks good though.

I started painting some of the swap parts. I cleaned up and painted the subframe too, but forgot to take a picture. I will snag some more this weekend.

I am not looking forward to this.

Down to the finishing touches on the bay. Just finding all of the little imperfections and adding some glaze here and there.

I came in here expecting to laugh at a donk MKIII, but ended up staying for the VR6 and shaved bay.
