Default Photo trends: Emo PP - What do you think?

I've noticed there is a lot of this emo photography and post prod going on..Not wanting to miss a bandwagon I thought I'd have a go.

Origs:

Emo:

They are only quick lash-ups, but I just wanted opinions on which you liked best the conventional pics or some of this gradient de-sat stuff?

I don't like how it gets all mushy towards the edges. I think it'd be cool if you used the effect on everything but the car. Get some shots under that tunnel!

honestly, editing cannot a good photo make...

people need to stop playing with photoshop and start learning how to look at an environment and take the best possible composed photo.

Ha, sorry, I was only kidding about the Emo thing (for want of a better term). I think it's cool and it's a style I've seen a lot of recently. I'm kinda just after peoples thoughts and, even better, any tips on how to make do a better job than I have above.
