  • B3MW’s Titanium Silver e36couupe

Welcome to my Project Thread for my 1998 BMW e36 328coupe in Titanium Silver.

    Standard Spec. includes………….

Firstly came the wheels – 17” BBS Style 5’s for the summer months & 15” BBS e36 Style 17’s for the winter’s……..

Next came the ///M3 Vadar Interior in excellent condition. Just needed freshening up, so gave it the SkuffMaster treatment (excellent stuff & the conditioner smells great too – the nice new leather smell)

Also always wanted a set of HID Xenon’s, but wanted something to match the CCFL Angel eyes already on the BM - Therefore got a set of the 4300k versions – Look great with a nice white light with a hint of yellow. (OEM Look)

Reached 130k & was time for a Inspection Service, so replaced ALL fluids/ Spark Plugs with Denso’s IK20, changed the Engine mounts/ Fuel filter & gave the engine bay a clean-up & also fitted a K&N DaveF Kit – Roars after 5k revs………

Fitted the Z3M Shifter next & changed the gearbox oil, allowing a shorter/ faster gear change……

        Now for the styling………

Started of by getting the rear & side ///MTech kit, as the BM already came with the ///MTech front bumper – Bought ALL OEM parts.

Got it all sprayed & decided at the same time, I wanted to go for a Silver N Black theme (after owing my previous coupe in Cosmos Black, I always loved that colour, with the metallic flakes – Looked Amazing)

OFF TOPIC Here is a pic -

To continue my theme, I got ALL the ///MTech mouldings sprayed Cosmos Black, including ///M3 mirrors, which I also bought. The Kidney Grilles were black as the previous owner sprayed theme, but were heavily stone chipped & I believe they were stain black, so they were also re-sprayed in Cosmos. The BMW badges got the black theme too with the blue parts all transformed to black.

I also decided the 17” Style 5’s just didn’t look right & lacked a deep dish, being the 7.5j versions. So sold them & bought a staggered set with the fronts still being 7.5j , but the rears 8j – They needed a refurb, which after much research I did myself…….. Was a nightmare todo, but the end results were defo worth it.

        Here are the progress pics……

I wanted the centres/ bolts black, but wanted a good durable finish, as have seen some with cracked paint etc, which looks dreadful & after more research I decided on getting them Powder Coated – The results were great & the coating felt really solid, with no cracks or anything while refitting the them together!

I planned on putting them on in the summer, but couldn’t wait so just fitted them – LoL

Finally the months went on & the weather improved, so gave the BM a full detail, which included Compound/ Clay & few coats of Polish n Wax using top products like Meguiar's/ Poorboys etc…..

Maintenance time was next, so a full fluid change including oil & coolant was done. Clutch was on its way out, so replaced it, along with the flywheel with the recommended Sachs one – (Not bad the original one lasted nearly 150k)

Reached 150k & still looked & drove great.

Gave me a chance to also clean/ grease up everything in the gearbox, not that it was that dirty!

Always found the 328 exhaust was a bit too quite, but didn’t want anything loud/ annoying! So went for a OEM ///M3 exhaust & removed the resonators – Achieved the perfect sound IMO – still silent on idle & a subtle roar at low revs BUT came alive at higher revs, as did the DaveF induction kit……..

Exhaust Clip – Turn up your speakers……..

To continue the styling I bought some smoked front indicators & LaminX Subtle Tint for the rear lights (Just for the top parts)

Was very easy to use IMO, a hairdryer helps it mould around the corners.........

It's got a very clean look to it. Nicely done! Makes me want to get an E36 in addition to my E28

Next up was sorting out the stance as the front looked too high & the rear too low.

So bought a set of fully adjustable Coilovers - FK AK Street versions, which allowed major adjustment to allow the ideal height to be set.

Also bought some z3 reinforcement plates & top mounts.

Changed the front indicators to AMBER’s, as got bored with the smoked look, even though it looked great! Also removed the FogLights, as they look dated IMO (plus I never used them) & replaced them with blanks colour coded to Cosmos Black.

Finally I was happy with the way it looked……….

Went to my first BMW Meet – SO many BM’s in one place
(Parked next to my Fav BM – e30 ///M3 (Hopefully one day)

Not had any issue's with the fronts, but the rear springs – They been a nightmare since the start!

Were fine when they were at their lowest setting ( for a day ) but was a bit impractical driving around etc, so raised them & the spring coils starting knocking against each other

Got them replaced under warranty – The new ones where fine for a few weeks, but started doing the same thing, so just gave up in the end & bought some TA Technix rear Springs – They been fine
