Whatever you buy, just make sure you buy quality. Too many times have cheap tools let me down. Never again. Went out and bought and entire sidchrome cabinet.
Your going to need a decent set of spanners and sockets, breaker bars etc and all the gear they come with. the car you get will decide alot of the tools you will need to own. BMW etc, I had to buy a different set of spanners. Power tools always help if you are getting into fabricating, drills, grinders etc, welders if you are keen.
You will need a trolley jack, assuming you will be under the car a bit, get yourself some jackstands while you're at it aswell.
As I say, the car will decide the tools.
More then anything, if you are willing to work, willing to learn, have some drive and some good good mates, you are well on your way.
