Post Hello I'm not informed.

Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a while now (almost a year). I want to get into the game. However, I have absolutely no experience working on cars. I want to buy a fixer starter car to learn anything and everything on. My main question for now is: Can someone knowledgeable please give me a good solid list of the basic tools I will be needing? I have a good amount of tools for house maintenance and things of that nature, but cars (I think) are a whole new ballgame.

Any help is appreciated!

Whatever you buy, just make sure you buy quality. Too many times have cheap tools let me down. Never again. Went out and bought and entire sidchrome cabinet.

Your going to need a decent set of spanners and sockets, breaker bars etc and all the gear they come with. the car you get will decide alot of the tools you will need to own. BMW etc, I had to buy a different set of spanners. Power tools always help if you are getting into fabricating, drills, grinders etc, welders if you are keen.

You will need a trolley jack, assuming you will be under the car a bit, get yourself some jackstands while you're at it aswell.

As I say, the car will decide the tools.
More then anything, if you are willing to work, willing to learn, have some drive and some good good mates, you are well on your way.

Good luck man and welcome.

Thanks iBronzit! I'm looking at a 1990 accord sedan right now...I believe that will be a solid base to start learning on. I appreciate the advice!

I have something like this and it's been a great starter set. I've added a lot to mine over the years.

They also have lifetime warranty for when you break stuff
