  • Tommy Ford Escort cabrio - greetings from Poland

Bonjorno, Buenos Aires and Robert DeNiro.

My name is Tommy, i'm 25 years old and i'm from Poland. At start i want to sorry for my poor english (when I went to school, other kids learn English but I thought only about boobs and carburetors). I watch your projects for many months and now i want to introduce my "friends".

1st i drove a stock Ford Fiesta MK3. My next car Was fast Fiesta XR2i but then i tought it was time for something bigger and more comfortable. So i bought BMW E36 coupe with M42 engine in beautiful calypsorot colour. I still have it, and I will introduce Her later in other thread.

Three years ago I bought some old Ford Escort cabrio (mark V) from 1992. Although I should say that I bought scrap.

To restore its former glory, I decided to give him some time and heart.

I started from the back (suspension, brakes, exhaust etc). Metalwork such as the Escort was not dramatic, but there was no shortage of rust and holes. At worst condition was this:

Everything has been cleared, and the location of the pitted areas additionally secured. After drying, the whole painted with special paint. there was a lot of welding, but somehow managed to save him .

Here you can see professional installation made by the previous owner:

And the ideal state of exhaust, which blew everywhere, just not where it should:

Unfortunately, but similar "fixes" could be found in every element of the car.
    This was the rear suspension:

    The next step was brakes:

    The new exhaust:

    And new parts:

    Brakes completed:

    Suspension

    And all on the car:

    Front brakes:

Oczywiście podczas montażu nie zwróciłem uwagi na kierunek nacięć. Efekt niedoboru kawy...

Escort spent the winter in the square under the warm pouch waiting for spring. As soon as the temperature became higher, the work moved on.

In the garage there is a new engine and gearbox to the Escort, and a pair of new parts such as joints, complete clutch, timing and such insignificant shit ... The engine is a standard 1.8 16v Zetec.

The block has been restored and painted, and all the equipment got to thorough cleaning and painting.

And here is the engine during the restoration:

    And finished:

And here's the reason why the old engine had to be replaced. Not only was it ugly, it's still an awful lot of drinking, fart smell, and in the suction seemed strange noises. Well, he had only one horse (mechanical of course)

    swap:

The new water pump and fluid (breakdown)

    And next parts

    and comparison:

under the hood there are new colors (red gave too much power for me)

Later I bought a bumper from RS2k and I painted him:

I think it looks a lot better than a broken Zender. Now escort overwinters in the garage, but in a few days it will stretch out on the first ride:

He still needs a new paint and a lot of work but I am optimistic.
    Next updates soon.

    Greetings,
    Tommy

Headlights are familiar with Escort Cosworth WRC (it's orginal from morette).

        I remember them from the special stages... They smell like the 90's ;}

                    I'm liking this...

                    I had 1 for 5 years..
It was a pure beater and only used to commute..
But it never let me down...
Not even when driven without oil in it...

Here in the US we buy these as throw away cars (beat on them till they die). I remember my auto body teacher tell me that Europe had a convertible version and I almost laughed, but I have to say it looks much better topless then the hard top version and yours is awesome, great work and keep it up.

In europe UK Ford has very strong links with motorsport, that's why we like them here. True - Escort isn't a good car when you compare him with e36 from the same years, but they have a awesome history - and in my opinion history is a important part of every car.

The bad news is that here also Escorts are cheap so their life is not easy - they are bought by young racers and crashed or tuned in absolutly wrong way. But we have relatively easy access to interesting parts so we can build a really good projects (of course if someone have heart and head to it).

My previous car was a Fiesta Xr2i - it was even worse technically than the Escort, but with a little work it could do quite a nice car.

and really fast considering its weight and good handling in the turns ;]

Cheap old ford's isn't so bad..

and more small changes. Cleaned the trunk:

                              Paint fixes

                              And new susspension parts:

Still waiting for new drive shafts from RS2000. Next week (Children's Day) me and my friends go to an orphanage. Escort will be painted by the kids so it must be in perfect condition ;]

                              Still fighting.
