Senza pari 280z build
So it begins....
I purchased the car from a gentleman near Milwaukee in July, and immediately made a few subtle changes. I've never been a fan of the stock bumpers, and I sure as h*ll wasn't going to be seen with the Iroc-Z rear sun shade still in place. And of course it was riding a bit too high for anyones tastes.
A photo from the drive home.

First thing first... black wheels. As new wheels were on the way, I wasn't going to put a great deal of effort into this.

Bumpers removed, wheels spray bombed black, and rear light panel repainted as well. On the right track.

Again, as the whole suspension will soon change, a temporary fix was a set of universal springs to replace the front and rears. 11" free height, and trimmed as necessary.

At its current state.

So far, typical ghetto mods... enough to drive around and not feel like an old man ( no offense to any elders who may read this). However the plans for the car are quite extensive. Below is a quick sketch that sums it better than words can.

In the long run, the floor and rails will be completely removed. A tube frame and roll cage will hold everything where it needs to be. The factory suspension and strut towers will be replaced by a double A-arm setup front and rear, suspended from the new frame. How far down the line will this be? We'll see...
The body will be widened about 9" each side in the rear, and just under 7" in the front to fit the new wheels. Work Meister S1-3P's in 18x13 up front, 18x15 in the rear.
A few of the rears... the front should be here December I'm told.

These will be painted in a satin black, and the assembly bolts will be left unpainted. I may replace them with the gold option, we'll see.
Now its just a waiting game for the fronts... In the mean time lets pretend!

The wheels will actually sit out a pinch further than shown in the last photo.

While waiting for the front wheels to arrive, I have some time to kill. Onto the motor.
I have a 1UZ I'm currently puting together for the end result, but that comes after the tube frame, so... low priority for now.
I'll have some fun with the stock L28 while she's in the car. A new intake manifold and a 6 into 1 header. Most likely side exhaust.
Here are a few photos of a "practice" runner used to adjust the parameters for welding the header. These will made from 1.5" sch5 pipe (1.90 OD, 0.065" wall) and fused without filler rod. There will be no bent piping or elbows used, every runner wil be done using laser-cut pie cuts. Sure, it'll take 10X the time... but it'll be worth it. Performance wise? No. Visual appeal? Absolutely.

i have never seen welds this perfect. they look like they were done by a machine. I have been looking to do custom intake piping that is pie cut like what you show. I just cant weld that perfectly. haha
i am in to see what the body of this car looks like when widened that much. really skeptical at this point, but looking forward to seeing it come together.
