Default DIY paintjobs, post up your own paint work.

I had always wanted to learn how to paint, so with help from books and the internets, and a whole lot of trial and error, Ive been teaching myself and tackle a few jobs a year. Everything is done in my garage with the most elementary of tools. I still have a whole lot to learn, but Id rather do something myself and have it come out pretty good and learn from it, than pay someone else to do something for me.

Show off what you have done yourself, the good the bad and the ugly.

Here are a few of my cars I did this last summer

My Miata

before:

after: VW Gecko Green (just finished this one last week)

my BUG

before

After: seafoam green and offwhite two tone

My W210

before

after: satin black (the shark teeth was just painters tape, done for a road trip)

After after: metallic brown copper (different lighting gives off way different color tones)

Mazda b2000 (spent about 6 hours in total on this truck, including taking off the decals and sanding.

before

after

Ive also done a few sets of wheels and some random body parts for friends, but nothing else worth showing.

These look pretty legit. For the matte paints, did you keep it mat because you didn't want to clear it, or did you use a matte clear coat?

I used hot rod flatz on mine... Its a single-stage paint, paint/catalyst/hardener 4:1:1 mix...
Shot with a gun...

well now i make a living out of doing some paint stuff, but before that i was just a guy who did it for myself.

painted this truck for a co-workers friend, was maybe the second car i ever painted and my first two tone

and of course now i have painted all kinds of stuff, love doing wheels the most maybe

satin is fun. Badwayz: what brand did you use for your satin black on your MB?

pearl and metalflake was fun to learn to work with

and i recently did my first candy. that stressed me out becausei heard it was really hard. but it came out ok

and i did my hood recently too

i dont use a paint booth, i dont use any crazy expensive tools. i have one primer gun and one topcoat gun, anyone can get the same results i do out of their own garage. just time and patience and alot of practice. most people only have trouble when they try to rush, but painting isnt hard, and actually can be a pretty good way to spend some time.

Oh, that sounds nifty. Is it easy to spray evenly and can it be wet sanded?

Some damn good paint jobs in here, the dark red accord is <3.

I spray bombed my winter rims, I just don't have pics of them. They look pretty good though.

I did my snomobile windshield last winter, from this:

to this:

I <3 Satin black, same color I painted my rims.

I'm a paint and body student, I just never took any pictures of any of the projects I have done. I've done my rear bumper, bumpers for other cars, hoods, quarters, and recently painted an 87 Pontic Grand Prix Audi TT orange. Turned out really well. I <3 painting, its all good prep work.

Its not too bad... Its 2 medium coats and it done... You have to becareful when spraying to keep it wet and even coverage or else it'll tigerstripe...

Never tried to wet sand it... No need to if shot correctly. Plus I think that would ruin the overall finish that naturally occurs with the product...

Ya, usually you can't sand a flat finish. I was just curious since it was a one stage. Idk why that would make a difference...
