  • E30 front blown shock

Hi all. Think one of my front shocks has just blown (shock moves up and down quite easily). The question is, if I replace it with another aftermarket lowering shock will it do the same very quickly? My set up on the front is JOM lowering springs, shocks, and adjustment collars. Then I've got e90 upper spring plates (-12mm) and I've taken out the JOM adjusters so the spring is sat on the normal spring perch. Hope that makes sense?! I'm running 16s with 195/45 tyres aswell just to give an idea. I only took the adjusters out about a month ago and don't know if that's what has killed it?

Will I be able to just replace the JOM shock with something a bit better or am I going to have to go down the route of chopping up the shock housing and using shorter shocks?
    Any help appreciated. Joe.

If your setup as of now, keeps bottoming out. You'll blow your new set up quickly. unless you chop the housing to gain some shock travel.

I've read up about fitting the ix or g60 shocks with shortened housing. I'm guessing I would need some 51mm housings though as I've only got 45mm at the mo. I would probably need 51mm adjustment collars as well if changing? Has anyone done much with the 45mm struts? I under stand how you can cut a section out and weld it together again for the shorter strut, but I'm a bit confused about how the spring sits if you chop off the spring perch? I'm guessing you have to chop it off because of wheel clearance issues?
      Sorry for all the questions!

Forget all the 45mm stuff. Just measured and mine are 51mm.

I used Koni yellows for a corrado up front.

Yeah when you chop up the struts, you'll need to weld on a new perch. Normally an adjustable perch is welded back on. Like the ones you see at the back in this picture.

In this link you can buy the complete set. With everything, and spec it out as you want it.

Ooooh, I Just saw that your licence plate is German. Well that kinda changes some stuff, since there are no real quality options to do it your self, unless you source parts from all over the place. The easiest option would be getting KW coil overs, you send them in your front struts and then you wait for a month and get back a complete set, that they have shorten. When i was searching for options (I'm located in Scandinavia) This seemed to be the easiest way to do it.
Tho, you can also get a hold of D2 coils / Ksport (They are the same), requires that you cut of your existing struts at almost he bottom, and weld on the new ones.
