  • Stretched tires... any difference between step and flat lips??

    Im not sure if this is a good question or not but i would like to know if theres any difference at all in terms of the actual stretch of a tire on a step lipped rim vs flat lipped??

        Depends....it's more about the "hump" ..... so yes... 2 different wheels in excalty same size could make a different stretch

          Stretching tires on flat lips is also waayyy easier since you can seat the bead on one side and the air pressure will stretch the tire all the way out on the opposite side. Some stepped lip wheels have a larger gap between the bead seat on the barrel and the lip, which can make stretching the tire very difficult. Typically this isn't an issue though since most barrels are full diameter very close to the bolting interface and the tire can be seated on the lip bead seat and stretched to the barrel bead seat.

          tl;dr - No, but flat lips are easier to install.

            I find tires stretch less on a reverse (flat) lip compared to a step lip
