  • What tire size to run for e36 bmws?

So I have some pretty fresh tires that I used with my GTI for a few months. 205/45/17 and 215/45/17 used on 17x8.5 and 17x10 BBS's. Anyways, the stock e36 tire size is 40 isn't it? The tires have been sitting in my room and I was planning on using them whenever I get new wheels but would running 45's throw everything off or would it really not matter? Just curious since I am moving soon and it would be nice to not have to move them and have a little extra cash on me.

    Thanks

Depends on the year. The M3s in 1995 came with 235/40r17 all around. This tire sizes are difficult to find. 96-99 M3s came with 225/45r17 front, 245/40r17 rear. Those tire sizes work perfectly fine for e36s. You are good to go. I run a 215/40r17 all around just because I'm pretty low and I rubbed with my 225/45r17 all around.

Yeah you're good to go. As long as the tire sizes are within 3% of the stock tires overall diameter you are good to go. That's the general rule of thumb with any car.

The 205/45r17 is 0.56% too small and the 215/45r17 is .89% too big.

The 225 you are currently running is 2.34% too big. All of these are a fraction of an inch different than eachother (overall diameter wise) anyways.
