it is a process called decoupage. I found an extra set of wood trim in a junk yard (yeah i know i won the lottery) so i decided to do something interesting. Basically it is a process of gluing paper to an object and then using a special clear coat that seals everything. i chose to actually cut out individual panels instead of just using whole pages so it took forever to cut everything out but i am really happy with how everything turned out.

Got the last bit of the interior in that i wanted to do. I wasn't a huge fan of the wood shift knob in the car since the M decal on the top was starting to come off and it was the only bit of wood left inside. On top of that the stock shifter throw on these cars is quite long so i decided to have a bit of fun with the set up.

I got a shift lever from an e60 545i which has a different pivot point making the throw much shorter (feels like it is half as long) but i didn't want to stop there. I found a 220mm shift knob from Its Proper and had the new shift lever machined down and threaded to accept the new shift knob. I don't drive the car hard so i'm not worried about it breaking. i might redo the setup in the future but we'll see

here is the stock knob with the stock lever

side by side of the old and the new, note the difference in the pivot point

the threaded top (normally BMW shift knobs just clip on)

        and all in

i'll have one of my photographer friends shoot some proper shots of the interior some time soon.

right now i am debating taking the e60 shifter out and installing a UUC kit since it is made out of T-304 Stainless. And since the car is my daily i don't want to have to worry about the lever breaking while i am driving. however, $500 is pretty damn spendy...

found these today, they basically sum up why i did the interior the way i did...

so i know a lot of you are not a fan of dip but because of the condition of the paint on the car and since i am going to have it professionally resprayed this winter i thought i would have some fun with the car. My buddy Chase and the guys at DipSource mixed up a custom color for the car and we dipped it this last friday night. I am going to try and get a different set of wheels on by the end of the week but i couldn't help but pull the camera out while visiting my father as i tend to do on sundays

i'll be honest, you really need to see the color in person but these will have to do

Interesting. The main thing is you are happy, but i would like to see that in person

                            progress IS a slow process
