  • night photography, looking for help

so ive taken plenty of decent pictures at night but this ones a bit different. its harder because the camera cant focus in the dark

picture was taken on tv setting, shutter at 15 seconds, exposure at 200. the parking lot was pitch dark. my question is how do i get the car in focus?

I do it in the next steps:
    1. Place camera on tripod.
    2. Using whatever light source (could be your mobile phone with flash turned on)
    3. While lighting the car I let the camera to focus on lighted area.
    4. Putting camera to MF mode, so the AF is not engaged anymore.

      You can:
      - use the manuel focus
      - use a flash light to mark the target, AF will bei OK, switch from AF to MF
      - use a laserpointer to mark the target

Or you had to use a better lens.

tri-pod with long exposure and high ISO and aperture and you'd be surprised with how little light you need. A light source however would prove to be supper helpful

Here is a photo i took with no flash and the only light was from a dim steet lamp style light. My iso was at 6400 with no post processing

Hm i've had this problem before, @OP did you see the focus indicator light up a circle in the viewfinder or did it just have 2 arrows blinking, just wondering coz idk what to do when that happens.

Changing exposure settings helped a bit and when i upgraded my d7000 -> d700 that def helped

                      More light

Ty my mind the only thing this photo lacks is a proper source of light.

Absolutely agree with you concerning light while I've got a remark about high ISO. It'a typical mistake of newbie photographers as they increase ISO and get a noisy picture as a result https://macphun.com/how-to/how-to-take-night-photos No photo editor will save it after such torturing)))

I would stay away from long exposures AND high ISO. That combination can lead to a very noisy photo.
