  • VIP inspired w124 coupe

Hello Stanceworkname is Don ,i live in Croatia i used to own a 99 passat ,which i sold becose the chassis broke in half after hitting a hole in road (the land of beautiful landscape and f**ked up politicians)with my lower trans mount bulid tread in link :
Post your build threads here! Keep us updated on what you're doing in your garage.

i also got a 1995 e36 for messing around and 1993 jeep wrangler completly restored with 3 in liftkit and 33in tyres (winter beater)
so i would like to share with you my new daily,

it is a 1992 w124 coupe, sportline 200ce 90kw (wih LPG) ,and it fast as hell lol
so the main idea is to make it vip style,(yes i know it is not a 4dr),
    near future plans are :
    leather interior
    2din radio(period correct)
wooden steering wheel and gear knob
    6in speakers x4 in doors
    e36 shocks
    cut spring
    for winter proabobly going steliees
    engine ?? KOMPRESSOR?? probably

unforunately i dont have a pic when i got it,but these just after instaling 4,5cm lowering spring and shocks

    so when lowering kit arrived

original sportline springs vs tarechnix -4.5cm springs

And dont you worry it will get moooooar low soon ,just have to get it thru MOT

so managed to get some RH ZW2 3lips for 8in and1 lip for 8,5in somebody proabobly f**ked 1 lip up an replaced it with wrong one

which were in pretty bad shape so disassebmed them and striped down the paint and started sanding and polishing

the end spec should be something like 8,5 front 9,5 rear

while searchinf for lip did some maintance on car ,changed oil, filters ,main brake cyl, rear brakes , front upper mounts

so the autom rains started, decided on modelling custom vip center console for subwoofer glass holders, shampagne bottle and new armrest
    first cardboard template

so excuse my wood choice had these OSB plates laying around

    making progress

covering gaps with cloth and laying fiberglass(between rear seat its around 17-18cm front is 5cm narrower)

testfit fiberglass with subwoofer helix competition 8in 500w /250w rms with 20l enclosed box

    trimming for new armrest mount

nex step extending all the way upfront

adapting front ashtray to fit console back(lot of trimming)

sanded and started assembling glovebox compartment

junkjard plate light hella OEM bi**ch for glovebox

glovebox ready for upholstery ,managed to get 4way strech vinyl from germany

    glued with neostick professional,process

and finished looks much better in reality

more to come ,stay tuned ,and sorry for bad english

soooooo, how to improve w124 to vip,in my opinion the only right way is to go period corect ,...so 90s .......the GOLDen times my role model definetely are carlsson ,amg , but maybe the most carat duchatelet interior wise, which ment stereo upgrade (2din)at least, which ment center panel problems ...and myFEDex GUY WAS F***IN LATE

                    anyway
                    rto equalizer

started mounting it in the glovebox ....aaaaaand offcourse it didn´t fit.....that litlle pr**k

                    had to cut the isolation

                    and mount

and bigger then 2 din vlvo...khm radio

i will mange the volvo sign later on ,but i bought it mainly becouse it was built by alpine so had to try it on,but first had to make jacks

it had blue-ish lcd and buttons light ,which kinda didn¨t fit MB
                    aaannd didnt take me long

                    got these

                    started replaceing all 9 bulbs

                    sanded faceplate

                    glued veneer on it

cutting out holes and f**in my fingers

                    testfit

                    yeeeey

will put epoxy over it to match the center console

made demo cener plate for radio and ac ,had to relocate them ,and left place for additional switches for possible airride

shaping it to look as oem as it coud

and role of wallnut veneer (same as my interior)

tested how it looks when coated with epoxy resin, and it is damn close

and visited scrapyard and found my self a nice selfdimming rearview miror (kinda torn out the old one) do couple of cuts here end there

and still dont have the finished pic,..sry

Good build! Hands on and DIY attitudes are great!

Depending on your goal... You are gonna want to isolate the sub from the arm rest. A couple of reasons.

As soon as you arm touches the vibrating armrest which is attached to the sub, your mind will just zoom in on that sub like mad. It's a really weird effect that your body and mind have. It's like the sub becomes as directional as a tweeter and you just "hear" all the bass coming from that area. Subs are great for being so undirectional in sound, hence why you can put them almost anywhere. It's just when you add in the sense of touch, it ruins it.

Everything in the center console will vibrate and make noise. Loose change? Rattle rattle.
It's also annoys me feeling something vibrate under my arm.
                        Food for thought.

I love how you are keeping this period correct and taking so much time to make these quality custom parts. Great Job! Love what your doing with that volvo stereo by the way, the veneer looks great!
