Mike hit me up this morning letting me know that people were emailing him about not being able to make new threads.

To solve this, I have setup that when a new user activates his/her account, it sends a private message explaining the new system put in place. Hopefully this resolves any confusion.

This guy has posted spam in one thread multiple times in one day. He joined on the 10th.

Yes it is, you are required to have greater than 4 posts before you can create a new thread.

I'm a bit annoyed with the spam here, and have reported a few.
A suggestion, I joined a cycling forum that covered bikepacking, and before they would let you join, you had to say what you rode, where you're from etc. in a email to the main Mod, before they gave you a password to get into your account. Works brilliantly, and I didn't mind the 1-2 day wait to get an account.

I'm working on the spam situation.

I'm going to make contact with Mike and see what we can do about getting people approved etc in a better way so as to limit the amount of spam coming through here. It did slow up for a while it seemed, but looks like it is back

I am new here and after reading through this thread I can appreciate the efforts. As a senior moderator on another very large internet forum, it can be rough. I've lurked here a while and now that I want to post, I was just wondering how long after making our 5 posts do we have to wait. I have a few questions now that I started working on my car :P
