  • 1970 Beetle ***It'll never be low enough***

Picked this up a few months ago, I settled for a fat chick because I couldn't find a solid Pre 68 in my price range. Got it home and found a lot of issues, overheating, electrical, lots of missing parts.

The respray was bad, very dull eggplant color with gold metal flake. I hope to try and strip off that layer and go back to the original Yukon Yellow color.

I dropped the motor, painted the engine bay, installed new firewall and engine bay seals, replaced missing engine tins, and added new firewall insulation.

I ordered up a Valley Autowerks 4" narrowed adjustable beam, all new ball joints, tie rods, steering damper, 155/60 tires, and drop spindles.

I painted the wheels cream along with the knock down rack I bought.

A little photoshop of smoothies on it

The back is now down an unknown amount of clicks. It's a mixture of inner and outer splines and I have lost track since I've adjusted it about a half dozen times now.

    Some pics from last week....

My winter plans are to try and strip the paint down to OE color, install the oe oil bath intake, oe fresh air box, clean up wiring, fix the broken clutch tube bracket in the tunnel, look for some straight OEM bumpers to replace the shit repro ones that are on it, and about a million other things. I'm also on a list for some spun metal covers to turn the wheels into smoothies without swapping to wide 5 lug.

Awesome...I definitely plan on building one down the road. Nice photos too!

      Long time no update.

Here's her last ride of last summer. Shit would change after this....

Started pulling it apart to wetsand down and was going to have my buddy paint it up for me.

Found some major front end damaged and both aprons were pretty much shaped with mud. Decided to go all out and weld on a clip from an early Beetle.

Previous owner hacked up the radio hole. Welded in a repair panel...removed the padded dash...welded the holes shut.

      Added pop outs

New fender beading and all new seals throughout the car

As it sits now...still need to get the hood to fit right. I had it fitted prior to painting but being a dumbass I didn't have the new mexican seal on the hood so it's not closing right. Front bumper mounted up no issues. Rear bumper is being a bitch because I used my late fenders and the brackets for the early bumpers won't allow the decklid to open. I ordered up some bumper spacers to see if that will fix the problem.

Doing some work on it. Went air on the front and got 15x7.5" wheels on the rear. I'll probably bag the rear next winter when I have room to take the body off. Forgot to put my bumper back on before I took pics

this thing is sick! Maybe get some wider wheels for the front to space them out and match the rear? Keep up the good work my friend!

The front end is purposely narrowed so i can turn when it's down low. Many Beetle guys narrow the front ends. I could go a little wider but I'm fine with the look. Got my rear bag setup last night. Thanks Airkewld.

                    Well....bagged the rear

IMG_1880 by Chad Harwick, on Flickr

Front gets higher too, I had my shop air at 85 psi so it wasn't raising the front all the way up.

Supposed to be 60+ degrees this weekend so I pulled it out and washed it up and threw the rack on. Hopefully going for a cruise Saturday. After that, probably painting the wheels white to match the rack.

White wheels are going to set this thing off.

Love the color scheme with the mint and white.
