to have lug nuts rethreaded or 14x1.5 to 12x1.5 studs

I want to convert my truck to studs form lugs (bmw x5 e53 about 5000lb). I like the option of converting from 14x1.5 studs to 12x1.5 studs because of all the options of lug nuts. I just want to know if that could compromise the strength of the stud and cause it to snap. My other option was to go just 14x1.5 studs and have the lug nut rethreaded?
