Regarding my quest for older stock alloys to refinish

Them - Why do you want to put an old set of stock wheels on your newer car?
Me - Because I think they look good.
Them - But they're older than your car - why would you do that?
Me - Because they look good - timeless design.
Them - You should just get some new rimzzz - chrome would look good

Back story - I have stock 18" alloys on my '03 GTI, the wife has hubcaps and wants a pair of ugly grandma-ish split 5 spoke factory wheels for her '05.5 jetta

Me - because they're stock

Not everyone has thousands of dollars of tools and lifts at their disposal. No shame in having some shops to various work.

I'm not saying you do. Transmissions, differentials and a few select problems are left to the experts. But a lot of things can be done based soley on hand tools and some research. My buddy and I replaced all of his suspension componets with nothing more than 1 jack, 2 jack stands, spring compressors and 3 tool sets.

You're not a lesser of a person but I'm not paying* outrageous shop prices.
