    2. Not an issue if there's a check valve in the line from the compressor to the tank.

    I don't know what you could possibly be doing to need that quick of a recovery time. Personally, I think 2 compressors is overkill, let alone 4. Sell the 2 420's and run dual 480's. If you're really draining the tank that often, the 100% duty cycle will be more useful than the higher CFM.

      I see... this all makes a lot more sense now.

      In your case duty cycle is definitely more important. 100% means that the compressor can run constantly without overheating.

      The biggest problem is going to be the volume of air; 5 gallons at 200psi isn't going to run air tools very long, especially not an impact. It could run an air nailer decently well, but anything more is going to be a struggle. Have you considered, and is there room for more/larger tanks?
