ordered and waited a very long time for my 17"-18" conversion lips to come heres a test fit of the rear (came out to 11''
) and sealed them all with carbon collective stuff. i did a shit job it and will have to redo it which im not looking forward to.
you definitely have to wipe off ALLL excess or else it shows up as streaks

          • [FONT=Arial]so i bolted sealed and torqued and loctited everything on the rims with brand new hardware, and went for a test fitting to see ow much tire i could get away with.
i guessed wrong on literally everything and am sort of over it but i digress

it was too dark to take front fitment pics. sorry.
the rear fitment was about a 1/2'' more than i initially measured for which im really paying the price for at the moment. you see why later... but anyways at this point i thought maybe a slightly aggressive fender roll and some 265's would get the rears to fit no problem,
            hahahahahha im an idiot

i wanted to match the mild stretch front and rear so i went with 225/40 on the 9'' wide fronts and 265/40 on 11'' rears. it was sorta close i guess.

            heres the rears

            IMG_2773 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

            IMG_2775 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

put on some new front wheel bearings with new shields and nut.
also did AKG bump steer kit, and new front brake shields my old ones were rattling over bumps( so i thought lol ) ,
and lemforder( if you own an older BMW its literally the only brand you should ever use) tie rods

            IMG_2781 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

the AKG kit did not line up easily and sorta makes it a pain in the ass to do maintenance on the front suspension, but what choice do i have really.
the rattle in the front ended up actually being a bad lower control arm ball joint ( not lemforder and less than a year and a half old ) that had enough movement in it to bang into the bottom of the brake
            shields.
so i got some e31 spherical bearing control arms.
my clutch slave cylinder went out as well, so i drove it from SF to san jose at 4am with no clutch. only had to stop twice lollolololol

so after all this, i tightened up the steering box again and took it for an alignment.
NIGHT AND FUCKING DAY difference!! it feels like a new car! the steering is soo tight and the weird vagueness it used have while centered is gone!! years of time and effort and finally i have a car that feels like it should.

had to raise it it up all around to fit the rims
and the rear roll didnt go so well.

            • so after getting the rims on the car driving like a normal car, i was on to the next phase.

              TURBOFANS

sent a few messages back and forth to Dlng designs and came up with a design and a plan
i wanted a set that looked somewhat like the M-system turbines so the butchers were an easy choice

              IMG_2722 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

the center i thought looked weird open so some center caps were in order, seemed like a good opportunity to throw some directional arrows in the mix

              IMG_2729 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

celebrated with some nigori and some sushi

              IMG_2943 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

then drove to portland to visit family, they just got the keys on a brand new 328i xdrive touring with all the packages haha and estoril blue. the heads up display is just weird and the electric power steering im not a fan of, but overall the new hotness is hard to deny haha

we also made pancakes at this restaurant that gives you the batter and a griddle at the table lol

              • so i got the turbo fans and it was a glorious day

                IMG_3140 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

look at the little directional arrows!!

                IMG_5314 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

installed a motorsport hardware kit to mount them

                IMG_2782 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

yea it didnt work, so many things went wrong its hard to explain.
the bolt holes on the face of the rim are too deep to expose the studs to mount the fans onto.
the studs are too long to bolt anything into the nuts. so i have shorter studs on the way.
i also have longer aluminum race nuts( couldnt find the right length) that need to be machined down.

when i sent the measurements the Dlng designs i used the rear lip which has more depth to it than the front. the fans looked great on the rear.
but the offset of the front make them look awkward. the fans stick out too much from the face and dont look like they fit. the rears are perfect.
so i have new lips, 4'' lips like the back, for the front. lol.
which means i need new tires.
                which sucks.

the studs also kept the fender roller from working right, so i cant roll the fenders anymore until i remove all the studs.

the tires were rubbing really badly in the rear, after a few rolls and some of the sidewall shaved down it much better and i was able to bring the rear down a little.
i ended up cutting the inner lips out and that made it a little better.
i could do 255's and that may solve it, but im not looking for a lot stretch or ultra thin tires.
e46 rear fenders and a fender radius might be the only way foward. its what im leaning toward, we'll see...

                • so i get a text one day from a really cool dude that i met on the streets. he had a black on black 34 touring with a working sunroof, what!?
he wanted to sell it, it was collecting tickets and started overheating and he had another car so he texted me.

i had visions of all black touring heaven with working sunroofs and sunshine.

went to meet him in one morning,
it was a total let down...
he wasnt the one selling it , it was his neighbor, and his neighbor was an eccentric older german guy who, uhh, i guess "survived' the 60's drug and music scene in SF.
trying to be nice here. really nice guy, but thought he had gold when really he had a rusted out, overheating, completely gone POS.
i tryed to tell him as nice as possible i wasnt interested, he wanted 1500.
i told him i couldnt even make an offer, it fit my plans for touring domination in no way whatsoeva

he told me how his house was being foreclosed on and about all the parking tickets he owed (75$a pop out here) and on and on

i thought about it. but still really wanted no part

                  he said hed take 250$

i did need the sunroof, and the black back half of the interior. it also had some new hatch struts, and some intact trim pieces i needed.
250 was crazy low, so i gave him 350.
                  whatever.

my plan was strip it and sell it to a junk yard for about 250 like i had done with the black e34 i bought for the manual trans swap.
yea just like everything else with this wagon.
                  that. shit. didnt. fucking. work.
                  app
after 4 weeks of phone calls and two canceled tow trucks and what seems like a life time jump starting to constantly repark the car to avoid a street sweeping ticket.
                  i got a whooping 16$ for her
apparently some laws have changed that affected junk yards and theyre now only interested in newer model years,

                  of course that happened

                  onto the pics..

got all the interior out of it
                  IMG_2866 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

                  got the sunroof out.
by myself, on the street. it almost crushed me lol. it was kinda awesome just standing up in it

off to storage until the time comes to rebuild it
                  IMG_2872 by parttimeprojectionist2, on Flickr

once the sunroof was out i did the next logical thing,
                  and drove it around

started by sealing the new lips,
learned my lesson from last time and they turned out fantatsic

everything mocked up with the fans just sitting on top.
the rears will look exactly the same.
                        pretty stoked

you can see how far out the fans stick into nothingness.

                          • so the fronts got widened and i get the tires mounted.
stuck witht the 225/40/18 on the front just to see how they looked.
they are a bit more stretched than i wanted, will probably go with 235's eventually.

rolled the front and rears fenders again and dialed in a touch of camber in the front.

i also changed out the wheels studs for shorter ones.
and got the wheel nuts the right length to mount to fans

so after getting the fronts where i wanted them, i re-rolled the rear fenders,
where i proceeded to FUCK SHIT UP.

everything was looking good and then i gave the fender roller one good tighten and pulled...
and then it all went to shit

the metal tore and stretched and bent and well, shit...

so when i got home i did some research and ordered some new fenders to widen and radius the rear.
always wanted to do this so im pretty stoked about whats to come

                            also bought an actual camera,
which btw i have NO idea how to use.
                            its a sony NEX 5r
                            which brings me to today,
went out and mounted the turbofans and snapped some pictars...
