  • Turbo Troubles

One of the sadder parts about owning a service garage is that cars tend to come in when they’re not at 100%.

Such is the case with this white 2002 Porsche 996 Turbo. Featuring the Tiptronic automatic transmission in this specific car, this is one hell of a stout car from the factory. However, it’s not enough for some, and has therefore gone under the knife to receive a few upgrades. Let’s roll through them really quickly:

    -Switzer Modified K16 Billet Turbochargers
    -Switzer ECU Tune
    -BMC Race Filter
    -Iridium Plugs
    -High-flow Fuel Injectors
    -Switzer Silicone Hose Kit
    -ETS 3.5″ Intercoolers
    -HKS EVC Boost Controller
    -Diverter Valves
-IPD 74mm Plenum & Throttle Body
    -AWD Turbo Inlet Pipes
    -Forge Motorsport Wastegate Actuators
-19″ Forgestar F14 Wheels, Matte Black

As we mentioned earlier, one of the sucky parts of service is that people don’t bring in cars like this just to let us enjoy a joyride in a perfectly functional 600 whp beast (which is what the Switzer P700 Package is rated at). Instead, the customer brought this car in under the notion that it was running improperly. He mentioned a rough idle that would feel like it’s about to die out at lights, low boost and an oil pressure light. Since this car is armed to the teeth, we knew the owner wanted to get back on the road and tear it up ASAP, so we obliged and brought the car to the lift.

So now we’re currently in the midst of some diagnostic work. We’ll start by compression-testing the cylinders to ensure the proper functionality of the motor. From there, if necessary, we’ll begin a thorough smoking to check for boost and other air leaks. For now, though, enjoy some pictures of the car and the diagnostic process.
