  • 2003 Lupo GTI - Raven

    Hey all!

    A few of you may have seen my other build on my 2002 Cambridge Lupo (JDO), i've mentioned the GTI in the thread a few times, but have never created one on it;

    So, here we go.

    I bought this GTI in January of this year, from a couple in Worcester who decided to up sticks and live a new life in Australia. The car needed to go and they wanted it to go to a good home, so i stepped in to forfill that request.

    If you don't know much about them, they're essentially homoligation spec vehicles built in line with the Lupo GTI cup series.

    The road spec cars are running 125BHP, came with either 5/6 speed gear boxes, which means depending on the gear box can have a 0-60 of between 7.2-8 seconds. and a top speed of 127 MPH Right little animals. I believe about 3,500 were built between 1999-2005.

    Mine is a 6 speed, missing most the interior so now weighs about 930kg, and the most fun i've ever had from a car. it's insane.

    Day of viewing, all standard essentially, bar the non standard wheels and a re-trimmed interior. 94k on the clocks, FSH, 2 previous owners and well loved and cared for by Sarah, the previous owner to me. Bonus being, it's Raven blue. A super rare colour for GTI's.

    It then resided on steels for 2 months until i'd saved up for some AP Coilovers. Photo above is about two weeks after i fitted them, when me and my friends Andy, Billy, Patrick and Ollie changed the clutch (Evil job to do on a driveway)

    Clutch in (AFTER 9 BALL BREAKING HOURS), drove like a new car! No slipping or gears missing!

    And it remained like this until about 3 weeks ago.

    I spent AGES trying to find a set of Gotti cups, and eventually did. They were battered when i got them, now after being home re-furbed and painted by my dad, they look like a new rim!

    Just had a sunstrip made up too, will fit with my ideas nicely.

    It's got a wicked stance too it. This is also since i've raised it about 10mm, still looks hard as nails!!

    Got lots of plans for it, going to be taking a bit of a performance approach to it from now on! (Although split rims are on the cards)

    Cheers for reading, more soon.

                    All been very quiet on the GTI front recently.

                    Don't worry, it's still here. it's been stored for the past 4 months. Splits are on the cards once the polo has gone, and today i've been in talking with my friend about having a rear half cage made up (Real deal, not a show cage), so that should be pretty ace! Also hopefully starting to build up my spare lump soon ready to drop inside it, will be a bit hotter with a few different parts, would be nice to see 145/150 bhp over the standard 125! Aim is a nice clean useable daily (Still slammed tho) With a nice bit of power to allow me to give it a proper thrashing every now and then, like it was built to do!
