  • Opel Manta Rallye - Norwegian

    hello !

after i sold my first model A, i missed it so much that i just had to have another one.
    i found a 1971 1.9 Rallye nearby, with a broken rear axle.

this is what it looked like after some cleaning, ofcourse i dident get the ats

when a bought the car it was under a meter of snow so i had to dig it out and started with some serious cleaning. i also bought a new differensial.

then the differensial was replaced with a lsd, and the car got some new rims. these are compomotive cxn 9*16 / 8*16 with magnesium center.

    more to come =)

then suddenly the headlights turned yellow :p

after a few weeks with the new-old rims the front rims cracked in a hole in the road
so i sent them to a weld chop and they fixed them. i also painted the "close to" original stripes on the side of the car

then the frontrims where finally back on

the winter came and i got tired of all the small things i didnt like with the car so i started the restoration, its basicly ready for sandblasting, i just have to wait to the snow dissapers

meanwhile i began to sand and polish the comps. they also got a new color to match the new color the car will get.

somewhere(i guess in the 80's) the car was painted red under, and cowered in white bodyshuts, beautiful

cut out some rust, and replaced the sheet metal.

i also bought some new parts
    hydraulic handbrake and steering quickener

i swapped the 1.9 for a 2.0s and replaced the crank with a 2.2. so i have 2197ccm that wil be fed with 4x40mm yamaha r1 carbs

a new steering wheel, and made a hub from and old opel sr hub.

and some new rims i got them so cheap that a just had to have them :P
2000nkr apprx 400 dollar. brand new in box
    these are 7*13 et-7

Nice Manta! The logos on the side are supposed to say Rallye, not Rally

yea i know but they are sanded off now

the reason that it was rally, and not rallye. is because my registration certificate says MANTA RALLY. so i called the dmw and they told me that someone problebly took it for a spelling mistake and removed the "E".

but yes, im fully aware :P

choise of colour is a little unsure at the moment. im considering the kawagreen-like original colour. or a "gulf" theme, with light blue and orange. time will show =)

There is! Here is my thread:
                          http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ighlight=manta

I like the orange too bud sadly it is the original paint and it's in bad shape. I wan't to have it painted just like original some day but that is really expensive.

Oh I have to ask since you switched to side draft carbs. How did you solve the vacuum advance? I am running dual Weber 40s and trying to figure out the tuning and everything.

I think the answer agreed on on a norwegian opel forum is that vacuum advance is not needed, but i`ll have a look around on the forum and come back to you on that
