  • wheel build questions

So i ran across a great deal on a set of lips so it's time to start a new wheel build. I have a few questions about building 3 piece wheels though. 1st, can you run reverse lip barrels and lips? if not how does running a step lip and a reverse lip together work? If i have a set of 18" barrels (reverse lip) and 18" faces how would i run a step lip? If you can run reverse lips and barrels then i guess the above doesn't matter, but i remember reading somewhere that this was the case. Next on the list 2nd, lets say i have 4 7" lips, if run a 6" barrel with a face that mounts inside the lip that should have me at a 18x13 +0 correct (provided the faces arent convex/concave? I'm sure i'll have more questions once faces arrive, but this is what i've got for now. Sorry in advance if this has already been asked, i couldnt find it anywhere.

Step lips with stepped barrels only. It does not work otherwise.

You'd get the compatible step lips/barrels and end up with a 19" wheel.

Impossible to calculate the precise offset without knowing the backspace. But, from the data you have provided, you end up with negative offset, 20mm at least.

Concur with the above. A step lip will increase the diameter of the lip by 1", so you need a compatible barrel to go with it. Otherwise you'd have an 18" bead on one side and a 19" on the other.

If you have the offset, lip, and barrel sizes of your current setup, you can calculate the new offset with the new lip and barrel specs you've provided by following these instructions.
