  • Need advice for sandwich mounting

    Hello,

My rims are reverse mounted. I wanted to know if i could sandwich mount the faces and will it be safe?

I'm trying to get half and inch of clearance from the fender and would rather not shave the back pad if possible. I do know the entire wheel will be widened by .5in.

    I've posted some photos below

    Thank you for your help

It's challenging to see exactly what's going on with the wheels marinating in paint stripper, but Futuras have two different styles of faces depending on whether they're intended for reverse or sandwich mounting. If you've got a heavily-machined lip on the back side (and it doesn't look like you do) you're safe to sandwich mount. If there's no lip back there, I would be hesitant, since you're relying upon locating the barrel based on the bolts alone, which aren't intended for the job. You're also then loading the bolts in shear, which they'll probably handle just fine, but they were not designed to do.

Some people have had said lip machined into their Futura faces, but at that point, you might as well have the backpad shaved and save yourself the downsides of sandwich-mount faces.

Or just get 1/2" thinner lips. Or better yet, pull pull pull them fenders!

Agree with Sam, do not sandwich mount those.
Also, it would only be wider by the thickness of the flange.
