  • Tip and ideas for my Saab 900 -97

    Hi!

I´m new at this wounderful site! I´m from sweden, thats why my english is so poor : Rolleyes

All my friends in sweden are rolling with stance, Bmw:s, Volvo:s, Mercedes you name it! And I´m tired of riding sky high and with no stance att all... But the problem is that you can not find coilovers for my type of car, only newer. I´m rolling with 19" rims right know and lower springs, 40 mm, thats perfect in the back, but in the front it´s a bit to high...

The original et for my Saab is 49, but on my 19" i have 35, thats perfect I think... Here you guys have som pics:

I would be very happy, if you gave me some ideas to me so I can get a bit more "stance" on my car, I´m very thankfull for every answer I get!

Hmm, dont really know what that means? If you mean that the tip of the spring is a bit smaller to insert the springs tip in a kinda "cup" you are right, it have "inserts" then it means i can´t cut the springs of ;/

          No.

Insats-stötdämpare betyder det, du kan ta ur stötdämparen ur fjäderbenet.

You can try to find a slightly shorter shock with the same diameter, and use that one instead of the original, so that you don't bottom out the original shock.

And, yes, you will probably have to cut the lowering spring to get it lower if you cant find coilovers. Are you sure that the springs are narrower in the bottom? I took a look at some pictures and they seems to be narrower only on the upside?
Another possibility is that you lower the spring"cup" on the strut so that the spring sits lower, this will require som grinding and welding, but fully possible.

The car is otherwise looking good, but the back also need a little bit more lowww!

            any pix of your suspension?

Is this how the front look?

These should be around the same spring id

you should take one and measure the inner & outter diameter and length of the spring. Also, the shocks max compression height then buy shorter coil springs with adjustable sleeves.

Nope, the 900 has McPherson struts up front.

OP, check Dave's (swedishsled) cars for some inspiration:
              Intro
              Build
              For Sale
He built custom coilovers and has it sitting quite nicely.

I'd definitely ditch the 19" wheels if you're going for stance, 17s are about as large as you can fit and still go low on these cars.

I would suggest 17s and more low. But looks great nonetheless!

Thanks! I like the wheels, that´s why i changed them, but yes, it´s slows her down, but it stills eats Bmw 540 e39 for breakfast This were my old wheels: http://www.garaget.org/?car=260038&image=2704634

oh, I see! Thanks for all the tips, now I have something to do in the weekend that´s coming up! I like this car a lot, but all my friends thinks this is a shit car that looks bad, thats why I wanna do something unique with it! ^

It needs maybe 1 or 1 & 1/2 in the back and two inches in the front! Something else you think I can do with it, except lowering it?

                    We will se what happens

I made a very quick and bad photoshop about my moms 9-5 stationwagon, and how it would look if I will overtake it:

What do you think guys? Military green or clean white plastidip, black roof, mirrors, wing, black windows, two exhuast pipes sticking out in the back... sounds a bit porno to me hehe

Well, I have to agree with the others, those 19" are too big for that car if you want to go for proper stance. No matter how close you get the arches against the wheel, it will still look 4x4:ish due to the enormous ground clearance.

I would definitely go with some nice 2 or 3-split 17" wheels, and more low. There is actually no other way if you want it to look stanced.

But hey, thats only my opinion!

Like others have said, I would look into some 17s/18s. In terms of coilovers, why don't you cop your spring seat and run a sleeve with an adjuster? This is what I had to do as there are very limited options for volvos not to mention anything that goes super low.

Here is a diy to give you a visual- http://volvospeed.com/install_perfor...coilovers.html

I'm running bilstein struts and they ride decent. Hopefully this gets you going in the right direction.
