Fresh from the other side of the pond, and then some.
Peugeot 106, 97 'Reg. 1.5Diesel. Most have never heard of or seen anything like it but where I'm from it's a great starter car, cheap and economic

Initial goal was stance some odd four years ago but apparently this isn't a 'fun' scene anymore and it's all about how much you've spent and how much negative camber you're running as opposed to the guy round the corner with his ready-made aftermarket parts to go low and wide as much as possible so yeah, it's evolved into a balance between form and function.

How it started, when I first got it;

Saving pennies for a set of coilovers (if I get coilovers); it'll have to do for now.

Welcome from one SW noob to another.

That things needs a drop, and a quite big one at that.

I love the 106; would kill for a 106 gti stateside.

Yes it does. As soon as I take it to the bodyshop & get it back I'll be focusing on the stance. I'm thinking 55-60mm on the front & then level the rear.

A stateside GTI would be mental!

Haven't posted on this in a long, long time. The point of a progress blog is to actually share your progress. Unfortunately, I haven't been making any up until a few hours ago :shifty

I've been on the hunt for a decent set of Minilites for well over a year now and I've officially given up hope. There's just no way to find a set that instantly fits and every other set I've seen needs some sort of modification that is too expensive to get done where I'm from.

So, I've turned my focus on to these;

6Jx12in Compomotive Revolution alloys :eyebrows
I'm meeting with a guy who has a decent set next Monday to try them on the Peugeot. Hopefully they'll be a perfect fit.

i approve to but 12"? will it clear the brakes?
i hope so but i am scared that 12" need big tires and not so clean style...
Anyway, i guess it is far from easy to find cool parts where you live so i hope it will be OK!
If i can help finding parts to ship to you, just pm me!

It is possible they will not clear the brakes but I'm certain a set of spacers would take care of that problem :)

I've been told that I will need tyres with a maximum of 80 profile but I'm hoping 60 will suffice.
And yes you are right; it is very, very hard to find cool and unique parts where I live :(

Thanks for the offer!
I may very well need some help from France one day!

I've got them in 5x12, I'll be using 165 Falkens.

You can use the 165 tyres on the 6x12 wheels which will give you a tiny amount of poke as they are not the recommended size :alright

& I still have to go low! Make them fit man. A little rolling here and some pulling there and it will work. But hey im not used to seeing 12" rims so they may look good and besides its your car man do what you want to it not what others want you to do. Anxious to see the outcome of this.

We'll see!
It's not a definite thing; I still have to go check them out tomorrow and there's a huge probability that I'll need spacers to clear the brakes :shifty

If they're a perfect fit then I'll need to refurb them & then I'll focus on the tyres!
Thanks for the tip!

Pulling & rolling is not an option where I live... I don't know of any bodyshop that's experienced enough :(

I'm hella anxious too!...
It's been a long time coming; I've been searching for the perfect set of wheels for over a year...

Update, finally.
Well, unfortunately the set of Compomotive Revolutions I had in mind didn't pan out for a couple of reasons & I've given up all hope of ever acquiring a set of Minilites (thank you die-hard Escort MKI owners and fans alike).

But that's in the past as of yesterday. I've bought a new set of wheels.
No crazy specs. just a nice, small, clean set of wheels for a nice, small, clean car.

Damn it's been a while since I had time to catch up here.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone, I'm glad to inform you that it will be lowered as soon as I get my insurance renewal sorted in a couple of months time now. Finally, yeah.

In the mean time I've had time to get a jump start on the smoothing side of things with both the boot washer jet and rear towing eye gone, small progress I know, but hey it's a start.

I'm currently also looking into getting the interior sorted as well, gathering quotes so hopefully will have some progress news on that front soon too.

jero_13, yeah spacing is in the plans as well ;)

DupLow, I hear you man I know it's possible but my car is a daily and I carry up to three or four people in the back most of the time which would rub unfortunately.

I would've slammed it a long time ago mate but my insurance knackered me for wanting too considering the horrible condition of the roads here. Potholes are bigger and more abundant than in the UK trust me :shifty

Anyways I'm looking into coils from the UK actually cause that's another thing, parts like coils and wheels like Schmidt, Borbet, all the good stuff really are not readily available here for cars like mine. If you want them you have to either travel abroad to get them or have them shipped overseas.

Hey whats a nice place to have a house in malta?

Hi erm, that depends on your personal preference and how much you're willing to spend really, you can find houses or apartments somewhere by the seaside which are usually more expensive than inner-city houses and apartments which tend to go for a little less but then it depends on region as well.

Then there's the countryside villas or farmhouses which are the most expensive.

Why man you looking into coming to live here or what ? :)

Insignificant bump, forgot the last time I posted in this thread.
Still on the pursuit of stance and I'm actually a step closer, hopefully I'll be home safe by show season, winter's killing me.

Wish I could mate but it's not like the States or the UK over here, decent wheels are very hard to come by locally and it's too expensive to have a set shipped over... Can't do much on a Uni student's budget unfortunately

Did need a change after three years... Those wheels were just filling the void until I found a unique set which unfortunately still hasn't come around so I had this set finished off last week

Read the 2 pages of your epic, out of proportions build and now I'm wondering...

....why the hell did you ever start a build topic?

You need to come up with someting awfully good man..

gumballer_80
02-19-2012, 02:34 PM
I started a build thread four years ago when the forum wasn't mainstream and unfortunately I'm not pissing money so progress is slow, excluding the fact that I'm not American or a top-tier European therefore I don't have access to the same resources others may have.

But yeah, thanks for your input, looking forward to keep the epic, out of proportions progress coming
