So my bro (BF.C member; Big Empty) is looking into some 18" LM reps for his e36 but is a little skeptical about the size, he was looking for something in 17".
I'll send him this link, so lets see some pics to pursuade him.
and specs of rim and tire would be appreciated.
ones he's looking at are
rim: 18x8.5 et35
tire: Nankang NS-2 225/40/18
TIA

He would most likely be re-finishing them with gold centers or purple or something.

If he wants stance with 18s, He needs 35 series tire, imo, because otherwise the tires will be too chunky to get any kind of real lowness.
Here is my dad's ride with 8x18 ET20 and 9x18 ET22 OEM Style 32s on his Compact. Tires are 215/35 and 225/35 Nankang NS2 in the pics, now he's running 215/35 all around on the same wheels.

If you go with a really low profile tire, 18s are the perfect size for E36s imo, if you don't want to scrape everywhere. Or at least for E36s with M-Bumpers... On non M-Bumper cars I'm not really convinced yet.

it's Canadian, I have to explain this on almost every forum haha.
The guy has been talked down to $900 and the curbing is hardly noticeable, he sent more pics.
Up North here a nice set of Style 5's with decent rubber are moved at around 1700. Nice wheels are somewhat of a rarity. It blows, but you gotta pay to play everywhere in a different way.

that TI is a 323 isnt it?
i know it looks the same as a 318 would if you did the same stuff but being a 323 makes it more legit in my book.

I went with 215/40's on my 18x8.5's. 215/35 I heard it a really rough ride. Onlinetires.com has Nankang NS2's for 53 bucks a tire. I got my whole set for 270 shipped.

Most dislike the Ti because of how it looks, not because its a 318.

Both - Imho, the bigger the wheel is, the lower profile tire it should be.
Also it's a simple matter of clearance.
Take an 8x18 for example. If you run a 215/35/18 your wheel will be almost exactly the same size as a 8x17 running 215/40. If you run 215/40s on a 8x18, your wheel will be about 2.5cm bigger.
In your case, a 225/40 on a 8.5x18, it's exactly the same. About 2.5cm bigger than 225/40 on a 8.5x17. Meaning you can't go as low.

No.

Yup, it's a 323ti.

The ride is not that bad, imo. It's pretty firm, yeah, but not all that bad in my book.

Wow I found my 215/40's already extreme low profile, but 215/35..wow.
Love that Compact, very nice.
I'm about to ditch my 205/40's and 215/40's as even on stock suspension I have a 4x4 stance, but already scraped (thanks to the very low sitting x-brace, wonderfull!!).
So I have to make a concession. I'm going for some chunky tyres at 205/50 and 215/50 and a set of PSS9's. This should give me clearance and an acceptable gap.
Still not sure whether to run 215/50 (or maybe 215/45) all around, but that would give me different amount of stretch as I'm running 8" / 9" wheels.

I had 18" csl reps for a while but they were too skinny and too tall for my liking.
Here's a pic

Didn't you have Style 5's and Saw Blades? Both of those are cheaper, I am missing the logic here. There is no reason to be a prick about if, if you don't like the wheels just say so.
The Ti looks great on the stlye 32's IMO.
I like Beastin' and Digital's cars too, although a 35 series tire may have helped.

I agree, but stretching a 225/35 on an 18x10" was just too much for my tastes. There is nothing that even resembles a sidewall then. Just rim lip, then tread. :rofl

18x8.5, 225/40, excuse the non-stance, will be stanced soon.

Found a pic of my old E36 from a few years back. 18x8 and 18x9, dont remember the offset or tire size. IMO, too big, would go 17's if I could do it again.
