View Full Version : Transformation of my e36
Ok, decided it's about time to show off my progress..and from what i started :)
Story of getting the car is pretty simple. I've done some freelance programming and from my first moneyz decided to get a car. My father had e30 few years ago..and we both were totaly in love with BMW's..
so here's what it looked when i brought it home

http://www.part.lt/img/85890101d85cb7abaa10b7d8036d1a0b831.jpg
it was pretty much f.ked up - only 3 ou of 4 cylinders worked, head was blown, lots of suspension parts needed change etc.
Fortuna smiled to me, i met with a guy who was studying in university, and he needed to make a warehouse controlling app to graduate..also he was a very talented when it comes to engines and cars in general (he drives e30 m30b35 :) ) i offered him my services for exchange in engine swap:)
so i got an engine swapped for free. Then was the time to change bearings etc..
then local dealer of used BMW parts contacted me and asked for web page in exchange for some parts. I wanted some wheels and tires..Style 32's :)

then was the winter and some drop.. :) in this pic car is frozen :D

was browsing internetz and found bimmerforums..Droooooled all over the place and cought slammage feever there.. Sean, Silv3r, Mike and Austin are responsible for this :shifty Thank you a lot :)
Decided i need some bbs in my life and then swapped my style 32's for BBS RF Styling 5000. 8.5 et40, 225/45 fronts, 235/45 rears
and got this broken mtech bumper for cheap :)

oh an here's random reflection shot :)
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/1544/1005494v.jpg
also there were lots of mods i don't have pictures of: installing hids, fogs (had to do all the wiring), swapping mechanic windows to electric ones etc etc.
plans: bring the front another inch. Bring the rear a looot.
drop in m50b25 with m52b28 internals (~230 hp). Get white leather interior. Recaro preferably. Get mtech sideskirts (twisted ones). Get rear mtech bumper. Search for wider lips and widen rear RF's to 9.5-10inch. :alright Respray whole car.
basicaly, this is my lego kit :D i love this car. I love how much i learned about cars in general, while owning it - i didn't know sh1t..and now..well, i've done almost everything on this car myself.. :)
i love all the memories asociated with this car. (no, i didn't lost virginity in it. :D but there were a lot of good times. :devillook )
just looking at all these pics is something.. :)
oh, and note - my ground clearance is smaller than a fender gap was :rofl
Thanks for reading.. :) comments and suggestions are wellcome

Love your story man! :) I just got a car not long ago, hoping to learn a lot. I don't have much money to mod it, but they will come slow one by one I am sure.

Thanks. :) oh, and one suggestion - never back down :) there will be times when evertyhing will look completely f.cked up, the car will brake down etc.. give it some love, and it will return. At this moment i can say i'm almost happy with the looks of my car..and it's a pleasure to drive it. I love the way people look at it, especialy when i'm approaching speedbumps and my front bumper is pretty much the same height as the bump etc.. :D

thanks:) getting compliment from you about the car is like getting compliment from Bill Gates on programming, or K. Bryant on basketball :rofl
got rear ended few days ago..sucks..well, nothing major.. one of my ZKW's cracked, hood and front panel now have some bends.. atleast i now can haz facelift :D
and it happened just before TUV approval..heh, fail. Atleast i got some "compliment" from the TUV guy. "how the fuck you drive around? this is the lowest car we ever had"... :buttrock :D
went to TUV with a friend (e36 with e46 bumper)..and after that we visited his friend (e34), to see his progress on e30.. :) did a bit of shooting.

hi there :)
well, i'm pretty happy with the way car rides..and passengers (females) don't complain either, so i don't think it's too bumpy or stiff.. :D even compared to my fathers MB c180.
and yeah, i'll put clears as soon as i get some money.. :) it's not a priority, so i'm not rushing..

Paint that thing man.

the thing is i'm doing this car to fit my taste, not somebodys else. ;)
so no way i'm painting her black. I might paint it other color, when i'm bored, though

Understood; you should always mod to your own taste first - I was just giving my humble opinion.
btw, I think like a darkish gray would look good.

i've been thinking about this for a bit, and i think you might be right:) The thing is black color really sucks when it comes to highlighting lines of the car.. I'm talking about lines of mtech front. On brighter colors it really stands out, but when it's black, it's kinda flat. So i've decided to try find slats (from m3 lux), paint them gun metal or something like that and the lip too.

great progression mate. I love to read a build thats gradually updated as the car takes shape. Much better than someone buying a car and just paying someone else to do everything. Love the stand out lip im not a fan of green but orange could be good!
m40 totally pissed me of (worst engine evaaar), so i picked this one up as a donor

Don't know yet, man. One thing i know - i'm definately not buing some sort of turbo kit. We have lots of talented guys over here and i'm sure we'll come up with something pretty cheap, good and custom made :)

Nice to see you adding those missing 2 cylinders, haha.
As for the green lip:
I like it in itself, but I feel it needs something else to tie it in. As it is, it looks a bit out of place.
Maybe green wheel centers or something, just some more accents in the same color to tie it in.

Pulled the m50 from the donor. Hell yeah :D took me ~day. I'm pretty happy with it, considering its' the first time i did something like this. Plus i did it not by pulling the engine out, but by lifting all car from the engine and the front axle. So basicaly i had to unbolt pretty much all of the suspension, gearbox, diff and so on... Oh and i was working outside, it's freaking cold over here (-15 C, 5 Far..) :rofl

Yeah, and i'm hearing that people see aliens and monster of the Lochnes all the time..Thing is, not everything we hear is always truth. And things almost always are a lot more complicated/have more sides than it looks.
All this crap is just a big misunderstanding and fuck up at the post office, and i'm trying to sort everything out (buying replacement items, shipping them out and so on), but it's kinda hard to do since everyone is opening paypal claims, threatening me and so on.
So i would appreciate if you wouldn't involve this in this thread..
Nice done.I`m impressed.

yeah, i really loved those wheels. Ohhh i wish they were something more like 9j et20..

It's basicaly a frame made of metal, with a big (~1kW i think) engine and a rubber belt..
Engine is held by/regulated by the bolts you see on the right.
Here's a set of Speedline Mistral's polished using this thing :)

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of the stance of your car. Imo the rear sits way to low in comparison with the fronts. It just looks weird with the uneven space between rim and fender, front has got lots of space betwheen the wheel lip and the fender while on ther rear there's almost no space left... just doesn't work, imo.

I just like to be slammed all around, not only the front. It's just that e36 rear arches are lower, but the rocker panel is higher in the rear, so you have to choose between heavy rake, and hiding pretty much all of the rear tyre under the fender. I prefer the last one.
My front is pretty damn low, it's just the angles. And pulled front fenders don't help hiding the tyre too :)

To be honest I did prefer the '09 looks.. green front spoiler + the Speedline Mistral's with the polished and the rest painted on green, with the center caps taken off, whould look the s***!

So we were talking on skype with one of my friends and he had this crazy idea of painting the rear difuser white, to match the front lip. I had nothing better to do today so i went ahead and did it. :rofl
