sup, im sure some of you guys remember my BMW. well had to get out of payments and my pops help me pay off this 2004 audi A4 B6 1.8T. immediately, i started cuttin it up
my E46 for reference
http://i31.tinypic.com/bdlau9.jpg
and on to the workshop, aka my carport in my backyard :cool
started with this

http://i43.tinypic.com/sd22px.jpg
quick headlight mod
http://i39.tinypic.com/2ex1u9d.jpg
on to the good shit
http://i31.tinypic.com/33w1nix.jpg
need to cut a little higher up on the rear fender
http://i32.tinypic.com/2n6brjc.jpg
im hoping to get my friends welder and finish upm the fenders within the next 2 weeks.
until then, decided to start on the wire tuck
before(motor had a thrown rod)
http://i29.tinypic.com/25ukugw.jpg
after (battery will be moved to trunk, ABS and coolant res moved to battery area, engine harness routed under old battery location under the firewall power steering res tucked, custom AC lines will be made and ran along the frame rail.
http://i25.tinypic.com/p11z9.jpg
thats all i really got right now. i need to finish the fenders before school starts back up.
i would post a photoshop of my frot setup, but there are too many lurkers who prolly got more money than i do :rofl )
ill update as much as i can
1 thing i wanna make clear, i didnt wanna go too wide. i like the lines of this car. but rocking some stanced wheels with fat ass lips is too tempting.
already have DPE as a sponsor. currently talking to: JLine, Work, and forgeline about wheels as well.

thanks everyone! like i said, ill update this as much as i can. got a little done today. removed the AC lines/condenser as well as re route the ABS harness to its new location. later tonight i will probably buy the ABS lines and a bubble flare tool so i can finish up the ABS relocate.
after i finish the ABS, ill weld the holes shut that wont be used and paint the engine bay. not sure on a color yet. im sure i can come up with something. the car is going to be painted a porsche color ;)

btw. there is oing to be a lot of "deleted" vacuum lines such as secondary air pump and stuff as well. once i gather up some money for a BT i can get rid of the air box and run no maf. that will definitely clean up a lot of space. hopefully run a top mount turbo

ps: technically its not "widebody," i'd call it flared.
BreakMyWallet
09-04-2009, 07:56 PM

flared is a pull. im adding material on to the edge of the fenders. yes, its a widebody.
dO-bOy

but you're only adding material to the arch, not the "body." hence widebody.

Are you going to "pull" if you will, the area above the arch out at all? Right now it looks kind of odd with that area being so flat compared to the flared arch. Could just be beacuse it's not finished yet though. Can't wait to see this done.

hmm, not sure what you mean exactly. the arch has already been pulled. it probably looks wierd because it needs to be shaved down about .5" and have the metal added.

Is the back going to look like this? If so that to me just looks out of place, because you have this huge flare for the fender, and the rest of the car is normal width. I dunno, you're doing the fronts too, so I think that will help, but to me, it looks like the rest of this car should be wider, not just the rear flares. Your craftsmanship and skills are insane though, I truly wish I had the knowledge/cajones to do that myself.

the transition from flare to quarter panel is not gradual enough for me, i like how the front fender flows. I wish you had done the fenders both on the same side of the car so that you could sit back and make sure the arch of the front and rear fenders match. Its hard to tell what it will look like now and not to mention as the front fender is on the pass side and the rear quarter is on the driver. I know it will come out good in the end as i know this is just the beginning so its hard to tell. keep up the work and keep us updated with progress :)

haha i was actually going to hit you up for some tips.
i know it was random as sh1t. i cut the rear flare, then since the other fender was off the car (drivers side) i went to the passenger side and started cutting. then i was like why the hell did i do that lol.
but ill cut up the drivers side front fender this week. see how it looks.
im not really concerns too much about the transition just yet, because its still going to be fiberglassed and bondo'd. af first i wanted subtle, then decided to just to all out and make her wide as shiet.

BreakMyWallet
09-08-2009, 08:09 PM
man the hood has me stuck. i need to do something. i sort of want to do a slight boser. very slight. there was also a hood i saw once that was functional. had a small downwards vent along the passenger side where the turbo is. looks sweet and adds a touch of aggressiveness. ill try to find a picture. i dont even think my hood has washer vents. lol i already removed my whole windshield wiper/washer system.

as far as this week, just finish my welding and start glassing.
maybe start on my trunk setup, but i need an air tank to test fit in there
Flavourless
09-09-2009, 10:07 PM
well your going to want to keep the glass and filler to a very very minimal. I would say you would wanna keep it right around a 1/16th thats why I was mentioning something about modifying the transition on the rear quarters before you really start welding ya know :) I would also recommend working on the front driver before you start welding up the rear so that you can get the arch very close to each other :)
excited to see what you get done this week. try focusing on only few things instead of trying to do everything all at once. I know you have mentioned something about your fenders, hood, trunk setup etc. You get to much going on and you could get distracted a lil jumping around. I would focus on the fenders and getting the shape correct as my number one priority and then start making some tacks to lock in the shape of the fenders and then start filling in the pie shapes in the fenders :). Once you get done with the fenders then move on to the trunk or whatever else you got planned, then you finish that move on to the next project. Unless you have something like fiberglass drying and waiting for it to harden up, then you can work on something else :) make sure to post up pics

plans for today:
cut/weld front drivers side fender to see how even i can make everything
cut rear fender (doubt ill get to weld it)
start making template for boser hood/hood vents.
lets see if it actually all goes down
reason im trying to get as much done as possible is because i need to have the welder back to the owner
and the fender is probably more gradual then you guys think. if it was all 1 color youd really be able to see the slope of it. the picture i took from the rear of the car makes it look pretty crazy lol

there will be no expansion. you will get cracking if you try to repair metal with FG. the metal i welded is not moving. welded the end pieces as well as a piece inbetween each slit.
im not worried about it. my car will probably see 5 days a month of driving.

he is talking about metal and fiber glass expand and contract at a different rate. Each heat and cool at a different rate and hence why he was wondering. Did you fill each pie cut with metal and weld them in? do you have any close up pics before the fiberglass and also can you take any pictures from the underside of the fender?

did u put fleece over the metal then resin the material??
BreakMyWallet
09-28-2009, 01:45 AM
naw not totally. just basically welded small pieces of metal inbetween each slit then fiberglassed the outside and inside of the fender. i can get pics of the inside but its already fiberglassed over. biggest reason im not worried about it is because the car is getting wrapped, not painted. as long as everything holds up against the elements for a while then it will get painted eventually. and the car will see very little road time. no rubbing issues because it will be bagged.

Ya what he said.
But if you are wrapping it and not painting it then any cracking won't really be visible so it sounds like you are gravy.

Why is the rear fender red like the fleece or whatever material u used on the spoiler and like that material lay on the ground? If you used fleece or any kind of material besides resin amd mat go grind all that shit off and do it over with out it like the front fenders...personally I would advise you to fill all the pie cuts with metal weld them up and grind the welds down. Do a little bit of hanner and dollu work so it dosent look all jagged like it does now...it dosent matter if its going to be wrapped or not. At this point it looks like you are planning on using quiet a bit of filler to get ev everything round and snooth. You will now habe three materials expanding at different rates when it gets hot out and then will contract at different rates when cooliing down at night or parked out of the elements...hence why you want to use as mininal filler as possible which I don't see that happening right now. I would say your going to be having at least 3/8 to 1/2 of glass and filler in places and that's no bueno...it is what it is and this is just some advice so u don't have to do it over again later down the road

naw barely any filler will need to be used. not even 1/4". i dont mind having the FG on there. ive dealt with it on my old car.
the red material was nylon and used to make a template for the other side man lol. i kept measuring and measuring and the only way to fully get it straight was to make the mold really quick and chop it up on the other side to make sure the porportions are correct. didnt want it looking all lopsided from the rear.

if i had money i could be done in a month. lol
engine will take a full day to drop in, if its already assembled outside of the car.
ice, its just wood and FG. my setup wont be difficult
my amps are going to be built into an amp rack where the back seats were (on the bottom) covered with plexi. ill prob throw some fans in there too. the subs will be facing towards the cabin. when you look in from the trunk there will just be my air tank protruding out very slightly from where the spare tire is, and a false wall where the back of the subs are. probably a piece of plexi with a team logo etched in.
all the audio will be elemental designs.
today i pulled apart the stock wiring harness for the speakers and labeled all of the speakers and audio outs. ill prob wire them up to my elemental designs ednine.2 amp sometime this week since that wont take long. unless i buy a nine.4 amp, which would be easier and more efficient. not looking for loud ass bass, just something really clean. trunk probably wont rattle at all seeing how the sub setup will be as well.
i have all the plexi.got it for free from my shop. hopefully i can go buy wood this week. some type of 1/2" wood for the amp rack and false wall/floor stuff. then make a quick box out of 3/4" mdf. once i do that then everything is cake. just a lot of measuring.

insane thread.
but audi specific. i ordrered all new hardlines and im relocating the ABS into the cubby where the battery is. battery will be moved to the trunk. and the whole vac system will be removed. and im looping the coolant system, so i wont be running a overflow tank, just this:
http://i47.tinypic.com/1zpigds.jpg
the abs is a little more tricky because you need a bubble flare tool, which i ended up borrowing.
not many have done it. except for a4rob, this is his

custom make a piece out of abs.
the flares actually extend down to the sideskirt/bumper so i may just make a mold off that for the front.
