NOT A FEELER, IT IS FOR SALE, BUY IT. PLEASE. NOW. :)

Trying to sell my Golf. Lost my job, trying to go back to school, trying to buy a house in the next year, trying to get some extra money together for photography gear, and I'm still crazy for even thinking about selling it, I know.

Good: The above. If you wanted to build the same car, it would cost you right around 40K. I know this for a fact, because I recently had to price every single thing on the car out for insurance purposes. The car runs and drives great, and my kids love being picked up from school in it. It is quite quick, very comfortable, and since I have redone damn near everything on the car to MY specifications, damn near perfect.

Bad:
1.) Doesn't have AC. I took the AC off two years ago and haven't regretted it, except on one day when I was hungover like a mofo, sitting in traffic while all the roads to work were blocked for some marathon, and it was like 95 degrees outside.
2.) Doesn't have a stereo anymore. Even when I had a really, really nice stereo system in it, I left it off of the time. The car sounds better than any radio, IMO.
3.) Still missing the little rear quarter window from where some jackass broke into and took the stereo. The window can be had for like $30 or so, I just haven't put another one in it, and haven't even driven the car since it happened, I was so mad.

Everyone always says "never buy a modded car".

THIS is that exception. One of the few modded cars that's in better condition than 99.9% of the stock cars. To bad I'm poh (see poor) Chad or she might have had a home.

Gonna be real sad to see her go. :(

Drove it today for the first time in about a month. I'm a freaking idiot for selling it. I absolutely love the car, the sound, the acceleration, the handling, the looks it gets, everything about the damn thing.

Someone buy it, seeing it parked and knowing it is for sale makes me shed little tears deep down inside.

I just saw it on Craigslist.

hover
08-27-2009, 11:18 PM
Yup, you know it is bad when I am resorting to craigslist to sell a car that will never in a million lifetimes sell on craigslist. It should make for some funny emails though, which of course, I will post here.

Here's the best of the best of the IMs so far:

"I'm going to go see if I can get a loan for it tomorrow. It's a '94, right? Think they will give me enough to cover it?"

"How fast is it?"

"Sure you don't want my sister?"
followed shortly by
"She IS 18"

And of course the "want to trade straight up for my honda B22-35F_GC8 turbo project?"

Not that I really have anything against Hondas, I had one about 11 years ago. Since then, well, I haven't wanted one. Nor do I want someone's halfassed project that is worth about 4K if it was finished.

yup.

I wanted one before I bought this car, and then subsequently dropped another 15K or so in it.

Oh, and I don't know if I mentioned it, but the car has service records and documentation in a couple of really thick file folders going back to Jan. of '01.

Well, I have too many cars, and I need to sell this one.

The '74 Jaguar E-type V12 isn't going anywhere, and will never be sold!
The '07 Mercury Milan can't be sold, and is functioning as the daily, per agreement with the grandparents.
Then I have the Saturn, the Buick, and the SUV for the wife.
I can't sell the SUV, as the wife likes it, unless I replace it with a Passat for her.
The Saturn and the Buick, idk, I might keep 'em, I might end up selling them.

Bottom line though, I just need to sell the Golf. I never thought I'd sell it. I didn't build it to be a car to sell. I built it to keep. If I ever thought I was going to sell it, I for sure wouldn't have spent the money on the trans I did. If it was just a regular 5sp car, I could sell it for quite a bit less, and much easier, I'm sure.

I wish I could keep it, and I'm not lowering the price anymore. That price is bottom barrel, and isn't even what the parts on the car alone are worth. If anyone wants to come at me with something lower (like the assclowns on vortex), then they can get bent.

yeah, so the dealio fell through.

buy it now, or forever hold your peace when I decide to get even more stupid with it (as if a worked VR w/ a custom 6sp and a whole bunch of other ish isn't good enough).

Sick Car!!!

I just wanted to offer some advice. Please dont take this the wrong way just trying to help a fellow dubber out. As I am in the process of selling a very cleanly modded car myself
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3344/3611777456_3f1b00af45_b.jpg

yes you have a lot of money in the car but you will never get that much for it. Here is why, the potential buyer would never be able to get a loan for the car. KBB has the value of the car at trade in as 1600(value banks will lend) in excellent condition not to mention the fact that the car is over 15 years old. With that said soemone would have to have 10k in cash or go through the painful process and extremely high intrest rates of obtaining a personal loan or putting it on a credit card. If you have the time which it sounds like you do financially the best option would be to part the car out and sell what is left over as a completely stock car + a few tasteful mods. The amount of money you have in parts you could easily get 6-9k out of it in parts alone. In addition you will have a much easier time selling a clean mk3 vr swap for 4-5k then you will for 10k.

I hope this is helpful, again I love your car, if you still have it ill be in tenn. in febuary and would love to see it in perrson.

hover
12-15-2009, 09:02 AM
I've actually thought about parting it out. If I part it out, then the car is easily worth 4K more than my asking price, but I just don't have the space needed to do that. So, as of right now, it is still for sale at the asking price, but I think that I just might end up keeping it. There have obviously been a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and money involved in building the car, and I love it. So, if I keep it, then well... it doesn't suck, because the car is a complete blast.
