E30 with custom air suspension (broken)

Bought this car like 2-3 weeks ago. started dropping money into it the other day. figured, wtf, why not start a thread about it. so heres the deal

1990 325i

yesterday i ordered:
- GC complete suspension kit
- ellipsoids (so i can convert from sealed beam to HID)
- black kidney grilles
- making skid plates

still need:
- WHEELS!!

not really doing much else to it. changed the radio so i can have ipod control. i need a new shift knob, maybe a steering wheel too. the front seats need to be refinished, but thats not a huge concern right now. anyways, heres some of the before shots. there will be lots of new ones through out the process. so stay tuned for updates.

+1i think this same thing all the time. i had sportmax's a few years ago and the greatest thing was not worrying about curbing, bending or any other damaging to the wheels. now all i have is genuine wheels and its a pain in the arse

nice....i too picked up a 1990 325is for 3k about 3 weeks ago...is black on black with 106,000....heated seats and not a crack in them, they looked so good that my mechanic offered to do my leaky head gasket in exchange for my front seats....i already got the new tan door panels and kick panels for the interior swap....the tan rear seats get delivered on thursday....i will put up a thread tomorrow....but e30s look so much better in white, i love urs!

Today was a failure. Went to put my new ellipsoid in. even though the plug is 9006, the bulb is really h1. so naturally my 9006 HIDs dont fit. ordered another set today, hopefully here tomorrow so i can do the job again. until then, some more pics. this time with no progress.

i can see so much better now that the sealed beams are gone. i was like blind before lol. right now there are no high beam bulbs cause i dont use the. im thinking about buying some of that yellow lens film to see how it looks

i ended up going 475/675. I might be doing a swap over the winter now though. so the fronts might have to be re evaluated. lol I wasnt planning on doing a swap, ever. but an e46 M motor kinda fell into my lap. if i can drag the price down low enough, i'll grab it up

The coilovers gone already. I never bought the Schmidts. due to the sellers busy schedule, we were never able to get the transaction done. but i found another set of wheels im thinking about pulling the trigger on this weekend

There were a few reasons i sold them. the apt complex i was moving to had like 6 HUGE speed bump each way. then i thought about selling the car and getting another e36 M. but i decided that i really do like the e30, and wanted to keep it. so Im starting the suspension over again. i didnt really take a loss on the coils, so that was no big deal.

I had an E36 M at the same time as my E30. i liked the E30 better, so I got rid of the M lol. The headlights fit great. The regular lights would have been just a plug and play solution, but since I upgraded to HID headlights I had to mod the back of the housing a little bit. The actual bulb on the HID system is deeper than the OEM bulb that would fit. Thats why I had to cut the back out of the housing. Then I cut the OEM wiring to shorten everything up. If you were to take my headlights out of the car, the installation looks pretty much factory.

just got off the phone with Jason at Rotiform again. Need to take another look at my front caliper to make sure that they wont hit the back of the spokes. So far here are the tentative specs on the wheels

F - 16x8 +6 (3" lip)
R - 16x9 -5 (4" lip)

according to all the math and research that Ive been doing, its shouldnt be too bad to fit the rears. ideally i wanted et0 out back, but due to the spec of the Rotiform lips and barrels the closest they can get is -5. which is cool. a little camber and some fender work. nothing i cant handle lol.

on the fronts though, I might have to run a small spacer to get them to sit how i want them to, then a little roll/pull and some camber.

Just got off the phone with Jason at Rotiform again (always helpful). Took some more measurements of my brakes and shit over the weekend. New possible wheel specs. Here they are

Front
16x8 -4
3.5" lip

Rear
16x9 -5
4" lip

Might be going with a chrome face instead of polished cause it'll end up being cheaper and less maintenance. Waiting to hear back on pricing with the new specs. Super stoked.

And I might have scored a deal on some UAS air springs to finally get that all sorted out (garrett ftw).

Also just ordered Ground Control comber/caster plates. Those should be here in a couple days. Those guys over there are great.

I originally wanted et0 for the fronts, but the way everything worked out with the lips and barrels, i was only able to get the offset to be +6. but when i called Jason today, he told me he had another idea to mount the face and use a deeper lip and smaller barrel. the offset actually worked out great. i could do 4.5" lip in back, but that would come out to a -17 offset, and i think that might be a little much.
