The tires are from the front wheel of the smart car which I think is 4" wide. Mine are by 8" so it stretched a lot. I got the poke from the offset of the wheels.

This is before I cranked it down more in the front. I can't get it lower for now because my downpipe hangs too low. I'll be fixing it when I throw my Holset on soon.

I think it might be bottoming out the struts too so if I want to go lower than I was at the show, I might have to shorten the strut housings and get shorter shock bodies somehow.

Doubt thats happening on this car though. Its more my performance project as opposed to looks.

Your buddy needs to get a lot lower, especially with the fuk air platetrue. it may be low but the fitment is not on point and with that plate, it's not making a very good point. he should make more clearance and go lower. or maybe he should have just gotten bags:rofl

and just because he doesnt have clearance doesnt mean they have the same stance.
why is there so much wheel gap then??

i dont have great plates to center the wheel so the rake is atrocious, a side pic would show this. thinking next time around 215s, great plates and 1.3in spacers in the back instead of 1s. i dont even have my fenders rolled.

also, most mk4s that drop are 1.8ts. Much more oil pan clearance. if i go down any further i wont move.

definition of low? frame to ground or wheel gap? i can put 19s and tuck rim all day long but i will have 3 inches between frame and ground. i think my plate is on point. bags would do nothing except adjustability.

dude to be real, the damn car scrapes everywhere! the bottom of the oil pan was dented in heading to fixx fest and now with the skid plate driving the car is a hard enough job. the skid plate scrapes and freaking pulls road markers up lol. Id say give it a rest, sorry i even commented earlier if it was going to be a sore subject, just made an observation........

thanks allwheel. awfilms: staggered blades wrapped in falken 502s 205-40r-17 and i tuck front and back at least the tread caps. skid-plate was definitely needed. i really don't feel like replacing my oil pan ever. present clearance is 1/2 inch to 2/3 inch plate to ground. iskrape everywhere! :alright

btw: i can go the extra 1/2 all the way around buy i probably wont be able to move.

Well there's the reason you can't go lower but it doesn't look super low. 205/45/17 is the size to go with on a MK4 to get the lowest and close up the most wheel gap. 205/40/17 is a baby tire that hardly fills the arches on a MK4 and they can get you low but will leave much more wheel gap than a better sized 205/45 or 215/40. If you want to hit less things and scrape less, get proper sized tires for the car

also, most mk4s that drop are 1.8ts. Much more oil pan clearance. if i go down any further i wont move.

False on most dropped MK4s being 1.8ts. There are plenty of super low VRs that are static

nice jetta, the tire size on the vr is due to the tires were new and on his montes, pointless to buy new tires when these were straight, so he had them mounted on the vett wheels.

a 205 40 on a 9.5 with a 1 inch adapter. next time around will be 215s with a 1.3 on the back remember i have insane rake on the back also

Man, sorry, but that 1st picture just shows how correct tire sizes play a huge role in stance. Your tires are too small for the drop of the car. Plus it doesn't even fill up the well at all. 215/40 and 205/45 is much better for the fronts.

Tire size aside, you have hella space from the top of your wheels to the bottom of your fender.

I don't know VW's that well, but I see them WAY lower, static, all the time. So I'm willing to bet that "clearance shot" of your pan, was a bullshit pic. Slammed, shot, and raised.

i purchesed the skid plate after that bad hit. never raised or lowered the car just installed the plate. and i daily it. i cant drive on road crests or change lanes on some parts of the highway. i cant clear even reflectors.

Back when these cars were static dropped. Both ran 205/45 up front and tucking tire and both were daily drivers in NY. The 24v is on air now and still a daily, the 1.8t was bagged then sold to a guy in FL who put it back on coils and recently sold it

24v VR. About 0.5" to the skidplate which was smashed up against the oilpan

Let me put my 2cents into the debate. Tires make a "HUGE" difference when calculating fitment. My car is level all around and I don't wanna go lower but I need wider tires up front to fill in the sidewall to fender gap. My offset is perfect as far as flushness goes I just Have way too much stretch up front.. Here is an example

Doesn't seem very cookie cutter to me? I think I've seen maybe one other mk4 with those wheels. And it appears that he's rocking custom retrofitted HIDs and stubby mirrors which you don't see on many MK4's. Just seems like some of the changes are too subtle to notice right away...but that's kinda the clean VAG style.

17x8 all around et 15. I have 20mills on the back and 15s on the front so final et is -5 rear and 0 fronts. The tires are 205 40 17s

You've just saved my type a's :) now i know it's possible to do et+4 8.5j in the front. :devillook

Yeah man, thoes look sick!! maybe a little neg. camber and a little more stretch for the fronts on em. They look sick tho, Ive always wanted a set.
