My Festiva build thread

yes. a festiva.

Bought a 90 Festy for 350$ and promptly cut some coils when it got home. It started as 4 in the back, 4 in the front:

but it sat a little ass heavy so we chopped another 3/4 of a coil out of the front, only to learn it's too short to meet the top of the strut now, so it's now 100% removed. still riding on 4 coils in the rear (orig 8) and bumpstops up front. almost tucks the 12's :rofl

had the thing for less than 4 days and this is how she looks.

plans include:
flat blacking the whole car
14" or 15" steelies (whichever fits best)
88 grill w/ mod
and eventually a BP motor swap

just kind of a rat look.

flat black, gloss red steelies, whatever tires i can get to fit (i don't care about stretch that much).

interior will get random odds and ends to make it more DD-able (cupholders, radio, etc)

not too much happening. she's currently getting ready for paint.

but i did find a parts car with the big brakes and 4x100 hubs on it so i'm gonna pick that up and slap these wheels on. had em laying around forever, and they finally have a home. prolly gonna run 195/50/15's and spacers if necessary.

not much happening right now.

i'm gonna try to finish paint on weds and am making a jy run on friday to pick up my new seating (goin with a bench outta a mid-80's mini truck).

i'm also trying/thinking up a DIY roof rack. i need a place to keep my water toys and fishing gear.

oh yea, went to ikea to get my headliner fabric and they didn't have it so i'm just gonna pick up some random camo for the headliner. as much as i didn't want a "theme" it looks like it's goin military/rat. flat green paint, flat black trim, maybe some stencils on it and a lot of odds and ends will be old military equipment (ammo can for roof box, name tapes for door pulls, and thinking of using an old shotgun as the muffler)

got some work done yesterday. went to the junkyard to source an exhaust side rocker/lifter arm to cure some insane ticking. no pics of that, but she's running like a top now.

went ahead and started my AC delete and half ass wire tuck in the engine bay. my main goal of the day was to remove all the AC components and any wiring associated.

festiva hubs are unlike any other. they're just...different. i'm sure it's possible somehow but the thing most festy owners do is locate a Ford Aspire's hubs and brakes and it increases brake size and does the 4x100 conversion. i was close to buying a parts car with the hub swap already done but dudeman sold the parts car. and when i went to the junkyard the other day, the only aspire in the lot had it's hubs taken already.

i'll just rock the 12"s until i can get tires for the 14"s then run the mazdaspeeds when i finally get some hubs.

my other option is adapter/spacers that make it poke and change the lugpattern

well, didn't get the doors done. but got a good bit done yesterday.

-stripped all the plastic outta the hatch area (dreaming up a rack system)
-Removed rear seat belts
-Stripped and shaved all the BS off the front core support (horn, misc unused brackets, etc)
-Flat blacked everything behind the bumper and the core support
-Tucked wires into the core support and zip tied em up
-Painted the fenders, cowl, and headlight trim
-New stickers

Got some work done yesterday. Removed headliner for recovering (still need glue) and pulled the a-pillar trim and painted it black. Also, the one wheel got painted.

STILL waiting on my door pulls. found a good door panel material. gonna order a grill and keep the stock headlights (i was going too "themey" with the whole military thing and want it to be more of a car, not an art fag project). and tons of little shit to do.

also, my buddy scored a 79 datsun pickup w/ factory convertible top that is already stanced and will be attending SoWo with me.

and on a sad note, my doggie had to goto the vet this morning for a mysterious limp.

and my drifter buddy (who's car has been posted on SW before) was over and just dicking around and took some of my extra "home depot lip" and stuck it on top of my bumper between my headlights, cleaning up the whole grill area. i liked it, so it got glued.

sorry it's been so long. had a fairly low point in my life the day before SoWo, culminating in no paint, no visit to SoWo, and a broken cell phone (which is how i got on the internet)

but i've gotten small work done.

first, the failure that is my headliner.

looks good/decent, right? well 1 day in 90* weather and ALL of the adhesive failed on me, making all the fabric come off and droop down. no pics of the failure, but now i'm back to square one with the headliner. i think i'm just going to run headliner-less and do a paint job where it used to be. who knows.

other things i've gotten done:

-new emblem
-removed all stickers
-got everything for my new door panels sourced, but no actual panel yet, so that's on hold.
-still riding on 12's and paint is still no where near done.

oh yea, the cell was also my camera, so no pics until i get a new phone/camera.

i fail. hard.

What adhesive did you use for the headliner? I used Super 90 and applied liberally and it held no problems even in extreme heat/cold. If you used Super 77 that might have been why it drooped, I've heard of people having that problem with Super 77/80 but not yet from people who use Super 90. Theres also headliner/cloth adhesive they sell at Autozone that has been proven to work pretty well.

sorry it's been so long. had a fairly low point in my life the day before SoWo, culminating in no paint, no visit to SoWo, and a broken cell phone (which is how i got on the internet)

but i've gotten small work done.

first, the failure that is my headliner.

looks good/decent, right? well 1 day in 90* weather and ALL of the adhesive failed on me, making all the fabric come off and droop down. no pics of the failure, but now i'm back to square one with the headliner. i think i'm just going to run headliner-less and do a paint job where it used to be. who knows.

other things i've gotten done:

-new emblem
-removed all stickers
-got everything for my new door panels sourced, but no actual panel yet, so that's on hold.
-still riding on 12's and paint is still no where near done.

oh yea, the cell was also my camera, so no pics until i get a new phone/camera.

i fail. hard.

use a spray adhesive. i fabric wrapped my hood and it works awesome

because i'm not that good at prepping and taping so i just remove the panel/hood/door and take my time making sure i get every bit covered correctly.

plus i don't care what it looks like between stages :rofl

Wow, I'm actually interested in a build thread for a festiva!

Have you looked into datsun benches? You can usually find them in good shape, and they run very very narrow.

leave the headliner out, and paint the ceiling of the Sistene chapel on it.
this festiva is epic. just out of curiousity, what is the bolt pattern on it now?
btw the key hole delete with the grill igniter is brilliant.
