View Full Version : UPDATE on my E36 (got my vans on but they look like my wheels?)

Today was nice so I decided to do some test fitting. I sold these wheels to a buddy a few months ago with the intention of parting out or selling my E36 since the transmission was going out. But after a fluid change (royal purple ftw) the problem I was having was fixed so I bought the wheels back and started my original plan :D. So grab some food and sit back and enjoy. PS. I know my wheels/car is dirty and there is no air in my tire.

Heres my car. 1993 325is Laguna Grun with 152xxx miles on her already. Theres a bunch of performance mods that I already done. The paint is shitty but after talking to my grandpa and telling him I fixed my car, he decided to help me with repainting her. In the right light, the car has a blueish tint so im hopping to make that blue pop more when I go repaint her. He is also helping me re-do the interior. Im thinking dark grey with grey burberry plaid headliner, door stills, and pillers. Along with Corbeau FX1 seats.

Here is the front on BBS style 19 17x8 et20. There is cheap pepboys 8mm spacer on there now and it is already almost flush. This worries me because I just placed a order from Rotiform (highly recommend btw) for studs, 12mm spacers all around, and hubcentric rings. Ill probably have to run a few degrees of negative camber and pull/roll the fenders.

http://i43.tinypic.com/o52cco.jpg

Here is the coilover, spacer, and clearance under the car. The coilover still has 10 threads left so there is plenty of room to make it lower. I scrape the exhaust every time I pull out/in my drive way haha. Im going to go as low as possible once I get the wheels mounted. The pepboys spacer is all out fail. It makes the wheel unbalanced so anything past 40mph turns the steering wheel into a hi-performance sex toy :eyebrows. I had to use painters tape to keep them semi centered on the hub while I put on the wheels.

This is my rear. Coilover is all the way down and there is no spacer, but that will change once my 12mm spacers come from Rotiform this Tuesday. Its not as low as I like, so i will probably take out the adjuster to get to the height im setting myself for. Ill will defiantly have to run some negative camber and do a lot of fender pulling and rolling. Good stuff tho.

My tires are Nitto Neogen 205/40. As you can see, the stretch is almost un-noticable, especially in person. Hopefully I will get enough income tax back to get Falken 512 in 205/40 since they stretch a lot better.

Thats about it. After seeing the wheels Ive been working on since before christmas on the car, I realized I don't like the colors haha. After I get the fitment on point im going to redo them, and I have something up my sleeve for this time :eyebrows Next time I post in this section will be a full photo shoot with everything mounted.

205's are a little too skinny for my tastes, on an e36 at least. What coils you running?

You're redoing the wheels anyways, go build up the rears to be 9s, then you can run 215s with stretch. ;)

I thought about it, but after seeing them on my car, I don't like them haha. These are just going to be my temp setup until something better comes along. Really want a set of salad shooters haha

throw some 205 ZRi's on for some stretch. I had 215's and they had more stretch than that.

Thanks, and with the 8mm spacer and the coilovers with 10 threads left, one maybe? virgin status haha just wait till the 12mm spacer and with the coilovers at the lowest setting I can go ;)

Edit: 500th post

Like the overall look. Not white centers.

03-21-2010, 03:41 PM
^agreed. Im not feeling the white centers, or even the style 19's haha. Something is missing IMO. Like I said, after I get the fitment where I like it, ill probably do the centers/blots in a new color. Right now I have the urge to do multi-colored wheel for each corner or paint splattering them so we will see where that goes.

Or....

Silver with a mirror polish. Just my 2 cents :)

Yeah. Silver/grey on a green car just looks the best to me. When I go to repaint the car, im going to see if I can make it more like a blue tealish color. Idk, ideas are bouncing around in my head now so ill probably refinish them again in May.

205 is the stock tire size for the E36 3 series.

Ill post better pics once I get everything together. Still waiting on all new tires and trying to find a fender roller. This was just a test fit.

Little bit of stretch, but if you want more go with 205/40s, plently of guys with them, check out slamdm3 when he was on style 5's or daredrocket on his Msystems if you want to see what it looks like.

How do you like those? Aren't the springrates hella soft or something?

Kinda irrelevant because I just ordered some FKs, but I'm just curious

They're not to bad actually. Before the coilovers I had koni springs (for sale btw :eyebrows) on stock struts. When I took them off, the struts were blown with almost no fluid left in them. So going from a blown set up with lowering springs to new coilovers and mounting bearings made them feel amazing. I never had stock suspension so I really cant compare the two. As for the spring rates being soft, the rear is actually pretty stiff (I cant compress the spring by just pushing on the trunk), unlike my lowering springs + stock struts. The front is where you can really feel the sofness of the springs. They are a little bouncy but Ive gotten use to it within a day. I drove with the rear and front completly down with stock 15in tires and never bottomed out. Overall for them being a under $300 coilover set up, im more then happy with them.

I was pinching money and when my dad asked me what I wanted for christmas, I just asked for racelands since they were cheap. I plan on upgrading to GC within the next two years or going with a bagover set up. Spring rates are defiantly the only con on these tho, but these are good for now.

Just a little sneak peak of what I did today. ;) Im planning on putting the caps back on the style 19 wheels. Looks better IMO. But after buying the spacers and tires, plus having to pay for getting my car inspected I ran out of money for real BBS center caps. So I present you with Louis Vuitton center caps. Black on the front, white on the rear. Or something like that.

Have faith Jesus haha. Everything that has some problems (interior & paint) is being fixed within the next 2 months. Wheel color and the fake louie are all temporary.
