  • My parts runner, a black and tan caddy project

    Yup, I'm starting another one.

    Inspiration:

Stealing these photos because its to dark to go take some.

^that will be coming out and this will be going in:

thats about all i got right now as far as plans and what not.

It seems like a beater but I see it as a blank canvas.

    Wife's truck, my truck.

This is a cardboard cutout of a mk1 windshield contour.

This is a corrado dash that I had laying around.

    Do like this.

    Then cut here.

I stuffed it in the truck, I still have to do some research to figure out where to cut to shorten the width. Its to dark for pics though.

    Its here.

I have to put the green car back together, then I can start on the truck.

The motor is probably coming out next time. Then I get to undo someone's horse shit attempt at shaving the bay.

I decided against the 16v. I'm going to reuse the carb setup on a 1.8 8v w/ a big lumpy cam. Here are a couple pics of the carb/half assed shaving.

From now on I'm going to try my best to remember to bring a real camera.

So, I forgot to grab the camera again. I was going to pull the motor today but I don't have a triple square at the shop right now. Instead, I started getting it ready to drop. Then removed a bunch of parts to bring home for cleaning/polishing.

I also got a new hood today.

    I loath sanding aluminum.

This motor is ready to drop. I'm in need of an engine hoist though.
Anyone have one I could borrow?

    I found a cherry picker.

    So, out comes the motor.

    Stupid 1.6

Cut out most of that panel

And started chipping away at the sound deadening material, or whatever it is, in the rain tray.

    Then finished clearing her out.

Its empty aside from brake lines, clutch cable, steering rack, and speedo cable

    Worked for a bit tonight.
Removed a bunch of bracketry, seam sealer, filled a bunch of little holes, and a couple big ones, on the driver's side. Next time I'll make my way across the firewall and finish off the seam sealer.

Work time came earlier than expected... I snuck away for a bit tonight and welded up some more sheet metal.

Filled a bunch more holes on the passenger side.

    And the firewall

    Fresh air gone

    This

I did this little hole but not the big square. Hopefully I won't have to cut it out and redo it.

I took advantage of the fact that it wasn't 3 am and did mostly grinding tonight. So, there isn't much to see. I did take one pic though.

Went to the shop yesterday but I worked on the f-150 so my truck was neglected. I mocked up a wheel. With a 25mm adapter it has 1.125" clearance to the coil body. I'm most likely going to do a fill and drill and 2" lips.

    Also, these guys showed up.

(Sorry for the mega-double-ultron crappy pic, like a super hero crappy pic)

I haven't been able to get down to the shop much lately, but I did tonight.

I still have some welding and grinding to do, but I brought the pooch w/ today, so I started spreading mud and sanding primer off.

Nothing like primer to mask dents.

    These are in the mail.

That pretty much brings you up to speed.

AWESOME! Definitely loving that pic next to the F-150, makes it look small, yet sooo awesome. I'd love to own a Caddy one day... can't wait to see where this project goes!

Thanks guys! The windsor blue Jetta belongs to a friend of mine. He wants my mk2, so we're trading. It will be my daily and at some point (when my caddy is done, hopefully) it will become a Jetta coupe.

Here was that car in its prime:
