1982 bmw 316 (e21)

After a mildly terrifying and absolutely freezing drive from Bristol to London (which included the bad kind of sideways at 70mph on the M4), I got my latest project home.

It's a 316 with a brand-spankers Weber carb, rebuilt suspension, 35mm lowering springs and a knackered heater fan.

Plans:

- Sort heating.
- Lop out a coil all-round.
- SS exhaust.
- Re-trim the driver's seat base.
- Rims.
- Replace horrible fogs.
- Single lamp conversion.
- Remove tow bar.
- Re-paint chin spoiler.
- German 'plates.
- Tighten gear-shift linkage.
- Paint (if I don't get rid before the summer).

Its looks very solid is it maybe to good to turn in to a track car,very hard to find a rust free E21 these days.

How are M42's in E21's for ground clearance? I'm hitting my carter quite often already, but I'd love to swap to an M42. And do they just fit to your standard gearbox/engine mounts?

Like DDM, I'm curious about the M42 swap. Was it an easy swap? I'm looking at buying one soon.. Finaly, is there much performance difference with the M42 compared to the standard M10?
