Spirits project -e36 323 loon

Hello everyone ive been a member for a bit but due to ill health ive not had time to really do much and also since last time i posted ive sold my old e36 328 coupe and now have a e36 323 i se saloon so please excuse some unfinished jobs and its all of course work in progress with a very limited budget due to being off work for quite a while and also this is my daily runner and work car also.

put my heart and soul rebuilding that car but the rear arches were a real let down and needed a full respray to make a great car and then out of the blue got an offer i couldnt refuse on it after it was featured in pbmw readers cars and drove round in a remapped ford mondeo st24 for a few months but even the wife and kids knew i wanted another bmw especially a saloon as my mate has a real nice modded one and so the missus said heres some money and go shopping but within budget only and not a penny more.

as luck had it i heard of a well known london forum car up for grabs that needed work but over 6 k of total bills and full bmw service history and some styling that not everyone approves of but it was straight and only one front drivers wing that had any sort of rust beginning to show and thought right im having this one and a deal was made.

And now the fun bits start so 18 button obc fitted
new stereo install consistinf alpine speakers all round
2000w sub box and 2000w monoblock amp plus new jvc stereo
full 328 exhaust fitted and modded backbox to reduce silencing

oh and of course being stanceworks i decided i really should lower it quite a bit so rear is dropped all the way-adjuster still in

front is dropped to max drop but adjuster still in as i live near the mother of all speedhumps and mot is fast approaching and being my daily i have to be smart about it

my coilovers are ta technix

unfortunately due to being short of cash at the moment tyres are 235/45/17 and 205/45/17 but i have brand new 215/4/17s for the rear in my garage and just saving for 205/40/17s for the front but no rubbing at all on m3 wheels and et41 offset

as you may have already noticed i have also some staggered rc041/42s im redoing but instead of going polished lips and painted centres im going all white instead to be different and i like being different and dont follow the rules regardless of scene or fashion and have my own saying

sorry its a bit pic heavy but ive done loads now but i know it wont win any shows and needs work and yes i will paint the boot and bonnet further down the line(it was like that when i got it)but i love it and will just enjoy doing it regardless of how little money i have nowadays ha ha ha

going for smoked indicators soon even though i am a amber fan.

thing is if i painted the bonnet and boot silver again it would just look like every other saloon again and i like being different.

had to raise the fronts for a while due to the uk mot rules but now dropped again

bbs rims ready in the next two days but no real other progress as ive been ill but hopefully on the mend and ready to start work on the loon again

Thanks guys and yes the stickered momo steering wheel was cool but didnt fit in with the theme i wanted now.
just waiting on a delivery of better shocks to tighten the handling and then lower it again but not all the way down as my sump is taking a real battering and rails and my local roads are bad but sill get a nice stance.
fitted some 8k hids the other day.

i need to some pro pics but the car has been off the road till today so the big update really has been the black bonnet has gone now and a new titan silver one to replace it and lowered the front down again with just 10mm to go but adjusters still in down to poor uk roads

also have a boot carpet and trim as i never had any but i lost the pics somehow with much more planned,much more now.

oh one more thing i have refurbed some m3 bumpers and will be fitting them also very soon

couldnt get away really with the no numberplate look anymore round mine so a cheap and easy fix that doesnt draw attention to my numberplate anymore than needs be but new plates at some point anyway

Not insured at the moment so not really done much apart from change the blue led interior lights back to oem white and today fitted some 6mm rear spacers(running 8.5 rears on 215/40/17s)and max drop with adjusters still in.

will be back on the road next week hopefully

so running 205/40/17 on 7.5 fronts with 15mm spacers and 10mm still to go up front to max drop and obviously 8.5 rears with 215/40/17s with 6mm spacers

today i just debafled the airbox and with the k/n panel filter it really sounds quite nice but a hks induction kit is planned soon

obviously some pics are taken behind some stringent security fences at work under 3 cctv cameras as recently a black e46 with a group of lads has been spotted on 3 occasions snooping round it in the front car park at work when im on lates so its being moved everyday for piece of mind.

Decided to change the colour scheme on the bbs rims so done a diy job ready for show season and went silver lips and anthracite centres.didnt polish the lips just sprayed them as im selling them to a mate after the show season in sept finishes and hes changing the barrels on them anyway.
just a few pics of them off the car as im fitting them sat ready for a big uk show at uxbridge sunday this week and want them clean

Thought whilst id save for new rims id rework my tired bbs rc041/42s so went from all white to silver rims and anthracite centres and gloss black locking nut and for a classic oem wheel came out rather good for a home rattle can refurb.
no point in polishing the lips as ive sold the wheels to a friend once show season is over which in turn saved me money.

not as wild as some on here i know but ive a tight budget and do the best i can

next new rims and full respray

decided to do the work on the drivers side arch as i had some rust bubbles that bothered me so got cracking on it and ready for paint very soon

also fitted a strut brace and rear adjusters removed and fronts soon to have the helper springs removed for more lows

when its time for respray new rims will be fitted hopefully once i make my decision 100% and some other bits planned

saving the pennies for new wheels and a respray so i rattle canned the wing and came out ok

Well did the family thing at sunny hunny and won 40 quid at the amusements before the heavens opened royally and the headed home and low and behold it started being nice for a while so see a few hour gap and thought stuff it lets hit the final coats of paint and went to work.

miles better than before but not 100% happy with it as the arch is pretty messed up anyway and you can only do so much with it(ill replace it at some point with a spanking new one) but it turned out ok and a pretty good match,needs 48 hours to settle and i shall rub it down super smooth ready for the lacquer(wed is meant to be nice weather)so thats the day i shall do it.

for future reference to any who have a go-do not try to blend it in and do the whole arch first as i can still see the original join slightly when i first decided to do it and as good as sanding blocks are use a electric sander(i shall invest in one soon)

halfords paint as good a match is the silver does get streaky(disco stu recommends paints for u stuff)

quality sandpaper works miles better as i found out very quickly

spend more time taping it all off to prevent overspray(now sorted but very annoying)

dont buy a silver car and rattle can it:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl


one door to go what looks to be a right bitch to do and im really not looking forward to doing that one:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek


so far ive done front/rear m3 bumpers,bootlid,wheels,drivers front arch out of a can but its no substitute to proper job but for now it will do:):):):):):):)

Finally fixed all the bodywork imperfections as of today bar a respray thats planned for early next year and then get the arches rolled front/back then hopefully some new rims

planning on 8.5 fronts and 9 or 10 inch deep dish rears

Well were can i start as today thanks to the weather and a lovely drive to sunny wells i met up with disco stu and the guys a diamond in nothings too much in helping and we got a lot of work done inc the rear droplinks finally done and my my what a transformation in how it drives now and feels so much more planted now to the road and no more knocking at all and so so happy in how it went today:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

dont think stu will be any hurry in future though to remove a 328 exhaust:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

and we modified the rubbers on top of the spring as since i removed the adjusters i had some banging and movement going on so we cut the lip out of the top mount rubber as it faces downward and mounted the rear adjuster in now minus the adjuster collar so it sits totally flush and taped the thread up so absolutely no movement in the spring now(top tip it really works and i keep it still very low)

sorry to those who have read my thread im now out of work so updates have really slowed,managed to get some bits like a 325 m50 inlet manni inc fitting kit for less than 69 quid off ebay(total cheap bargain) and a short shifter kit and new chrome gearknob plus polybush set for the front end.

mot time next month so mods will have to wait for now unfortunately

Mines already remapped but yes im having a full power map after again buddy so 220bhp is achieved Hopefully as mpg doesnt bother me.turbo upgrade maybe at some point in the future too.

Right before anyone comments shes raised ready for a mot next month as i cant get on any mot station ramps at my usual ride height so please excuse the 40mm raise for now it will go back down after it passes hopefully

Right big update-arches time

Been planned ever since the beginning of the project and im lucky in that mine are rock solid on the rears and 99% perfect up front so today with help from kev318bmw we attacked the rears with a borrowed arch roller and my wifes hairdyer:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl and went very very well and no cracked paint or any dramas at all but bloody cold and hard work doing it but heres the pics throughout the day.

9am start

i already attacked the sealant inside the inner arch liner before kev arrived so it was straight to work.my plan was roll to my 8.5 rears with a 215/40/17 Tyre on a 20mm spacer to give enough clearance for any future updates and if ive worked it right(stu,matt,damien,suj please help me on this)possible rear fitments of et10 on a 205/40/17 or et16s ish on a 215/40/17 in future.the arches were deseiled and rolled as flat as we dared with a minimal flare without risking cracked paint or stupid flares to try to keep an oem look as much as we could:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

think i can run 215s on a 9j rear without catching now or adjust camber to make sure(disco stu mate i need you to sort this out maybe buddy:):):):))but the wheels im looking at are et26 or 35s i cant decide yet but now i have more options as i have raised the rears 10mm now to give me this plus a pic for abm to show ive started stripping the boot and temp wiring for now.

Dont like sitting around so cracked on amping the front speakers and left side done and new rca wires ran through the car with just the drivers side to finish and passenger seat removed ready to fit the airbag bypass which turned up ten minutes after i packed up for the day:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad

Say goodbye to the m3 mirrors they are well forgotten to move away from its current look and the ambers are back on with new oem rears coming from lukes accident damaged loon and some wheels are replacing the bbs rims as ive done a deal with a lad over bits i wanted and money my way and std black mirrors for now which are growing on me(disco stu has the same)

its not an m3 nor do i ever want an m3 rep i do my own thing as people know and this season a step up from before.

big update-m50 manifold time

Let me say i never want to do another one and im sure some of you see on my facebook page the hassle we had fitting it but yes its finally on and thanks to kev rout,rob martin,aaron,steve,mark,kev cataclysm and basically loads who guided us through it because its a complete nightmare to do first time out.

future points is-buy a decent fitting kit mine was shit
make a note of what goes where its easier refitting trust me
take your time
do your homework
check and recheck everything twice
be prepared for it
buy 60 fags you will need it
buy loads of beer it helps
the top cover doesnt fit afterwards you need to trim it
make new fuel rail brackets

if your not confident dont do it get someone who is i never want to do it again:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Anyway also fitted the other polybush on passenger lolypop and that basically fell to bits the minute we removed it:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek


Anyway heres the pics and two days of extreme pissed off lads and total head scratching and yes it does make a big big difference and yes you do loose some low down torque but im having it remapped very soon and will iron out any problems:):):):):):):):):)

Started cleaning them up but im just not feeling them at the moment......maybe a colour change in anthracite like i did the bbs rims at santa pod all over might suit more but came up ok really for an old set

powerwashed with snowfoam then used ag clean wheels then demon shine to finish,tyres need to come off really to fit mine on as they are 45 profiles and too wide for me and odd sizes

And just leaned one on the rear to give me an idea of look.they are 7j all round on et47 which is fine for wide tyres and a std height car but mines ahem very low and cant afford some more spacers like 20mm atm being out of work to make it how i want.

the rims cant be the reason for low amount of comments i put 10j wheels on my e36 and only you commented

i did the m50 conversion i take it that front breather disintigrated mine did
i actually found one at bacons yard i found the injectors were the worst bit i popped one off thinking il change that big mistake they are fiddly as fudge to snap in also the bolt on the manifold thats at the back you know the one

then i got in contact with you and im now going to a meet so some good came out of it plus since i now know your from lynn

yes mate sandringham is ahem a target for drifts sometimes as its empty :eyebrows:eyebrows:eyebrows and yes nut no 7 on the m50 what a ballache to do and infact putting it back it came off and is missing now:rofl:rofl:rofl.having my one redone on monday as im not happy with its fitting kit and aaron reeve performance is doing it for me now as ive given up on it:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

bbs rims are staying and the other set hopefully at some point i will buy for show time.now need some 20mm spacers to fill the rear up more for now or 15mm maybe.

what are the symptoms? if i can help you in anyway i will, i think you need to get no7 on and the whole thing tight , i have some spare manifold bolts ,when i did mine i first bought a kit off of ebay but when it got here i was like its a bit poor shit white plastic pipes but i needed the the big pipe connector thats snaps in under the m50 but i looked at all the bits and thought b&q got some copper pipe corners and a copper t bit the fish plates were no good i got to pin the fuel rails down i didnt have a clue about manifolds when i did it just keep googling and reading i kept going to bacons and getting odd pipes
did you clean your idle valve while you had it apart this is a really good tip i was given,another thing i did was when i first put it in i looked in from the front under the maifold and realised that big pipe was quite kinked up so i took it apart again an stuck another copper corner ,what did you do with your tempreture sensor i put mine in the rubber boot that goes from the maf to the throttle body
i bought a bag of copper corner bits if you want some i got plenty left

i rip around sandringham i live in ingoldisthorpe so literally a stones throw away lol

the worst job on the e36 is the starter motor what a fuck pig i ended up taking it to a garage you have to reach up and over the gear box with a meter of extension bars and you have to move the m50 to get it out dont know why bmw bolted it this way ,but i did figure something out when it first started playing up there is a tiny screw in the top i just took it out and put a drop of oil in and it lasted a year with the occasional wack lol

Epic fail this morning as i was due to buy another set on top of the 32 and style 68s ive got and the intake boot and maf gave up on me some quick blast to bacons and second hand one replaced them and some other bits and shes firing again fine and looks as new condition:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

other wheels will have to wait for now:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Anyway nipped to lennys(he is signing up soon with a gorgeous e36 328 coupe) and test fitted the style 32s and fooook me a big difference in look and rears need more rolling to be safe imo:):):):):)/
Any way they are e46 ones so dish is the same:frown:frown:frown:frown but still nice and will need more of a refurb then i wanted as some muppet sprayed them before without etch primer properly and bright silver paint and its all flaking off so i will start on them very soon and sort them out:hihi:hihi:hihi:hihi:hihi.

because they are not the rare ones i might do them in either a soft silver or anthracite grey like the bbs ones were at one point to freshen them up and keep it simple....no bright colours this time im afraid.

yeah those wheels i had them five years were that color silver when i got them lol i promise im not the muppet but they do have leprosy my rat on the other hand i have encouraged leprosy still great fitment on your car brother and for free got some good wheels really and i know you will make them look awesome and from the rear arches i think its prob a good thing there not staggered but if you roll the dogs meatballs out of them you might be able to get your thin spacers in the back honestly tho people the photos dont do this car justice it looks a lot lower in person and andy has put a lot of love in to this build and a lot of work

Mot passed once the handbrake issue was sorted and ride height once again dropped plus bbs rims gone and style 68s as a temp set for now till the style 32s get done.
hope a new job is in the pipeline so maybe it can move up a gear again.

M50 finally unleashed and remap done today.bbtb still to fit money permitting but even with a slipping clutch the car feels like a beast unleashed now and amazing through the gears now and very happy with it.

Well some changes have happened and another set of headlights back on,delensed with unsmoked main beams now and 8k ccfls with 8k hids on dipped beam with hid shrouds.
today i also did the us running light mod as well to the loon and started paint stripping the style 32s for fitting later in the year.

remap done and brand new luk clutch and new dealer spec gearbox oil replacing the old crap in it.

I was always interested in upgrading my 2.8 engine from m52 to m50 with BBTB but was not sure about the extra power that the engine will gain.. Can you feel the mod or is just something minor?

Guess in the uk its a miles more popular mod than the usa or elsewhere and regardless what anyone says you do loose some low down torque until you remap the car in which case its like a different car again and pulls really well especially with an aggressive map i run...my rev limit i set to 7k as any more is pointless due to no extra power gained.
the mod on its own is very very good especially after 4k but the remap really benefits it more as you loose all flat spots and the car pulls much much better and mine idles better now than before anyway:alright:alright:alright.

Basically the 2.8 and 2.5 m52 lump is the same bar displacement size and the m50 really brings the engine alive and worth the expense as long as the fitting kit is good.

Regarding the bbtb ive driven james 328 at 260 bhp with remap,m50,us cams,bbtb and didnt like it it felt a bit jumpy on the throttle in traffic but good on the open road as it feels more urgent but imo i think well overpriced and over-hyped for what it is and wont be putting one on mine any time soon.

Since ive had the 68s on even though they are a staggered set of 7.5 and 8.5 the rear fitment due to having a higher offset than the bbs rims has bugged me and really needed to fill the rear arches more so today thanks to kevin 318bmw(e36 black gt rep) i purchased some 15mm hubcentric spacers to fill that gap and miles better.

Now as some people know i have hinted at running wider rubber at some point so the plan is get another pair of 8.5s and bring the 215 rears to the front and run 235s at the back at some point instead of 215s and 205s as i want more handling in future instead of the stretch look and run 15mm spacers all round once i fully roll the rears back or 245s if i can make it work without sacrificing the rear arches in condition for a more squared squat look in future or if things improve a decent set of wheels to do it justice plus i have one or two other things in mind i know i can make work:D:D:D:D:D:D:D.

Think today has made my mind up i wont be doing anymore bodywork or spraying unless its just grills and trim now im fed up being on the floor and other angles and rattle canning my car i just gonna get a pro have the hassle now and no more refurbing wheels either just gonna buy a refurbed set or a brand new set now im done with second best on this project as its all getting a bit much now but i did get a fair bit of work done inc fixing my m3 front bumper as some of you eagle eye followers might have noticed the gap on the drivers side,this now has been fixed but didnt take pics of this part i had too much stuff going on bodywork wise.

2 new wishbones kev bought but never fitted(remember i bought a drivers side brand new item not long back so passenger one can be replaced too

2 replacement window wiper arms off a coupe and we modded these to fit as they normally i led to believe are different size...well mine was:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl now with bosch aero wipers(eagle eyed peeps will notice my old arms had some rust corrosion on so binned them as it bothered me:eek:eek:eek

2 new spx 5 1/4 inch speakers-wont use these im selling them on again i think

2 focal 5 1/4 inch focal components with tweeters and one jbl as one of the focals has a slight split on the surround inc crossovers-focal

2 6x9 mb quart 6x9s inc hangers-will get these on a replace my 6x9s as they are quality kit

Bit quite I know but busy training for my job this week and 450 miles plus travelling back n forth to norwich everday. Realised my front top mounts are shot so ordered some second hand m3 evo top mounts off ebay as new is shocking price and some brand new meyle hd rear top mounts as a precaution.

Decided to raise it for work purposes and planned work for dc13 is put on hold.planned to start again nearer sept for santa pod as I need to sort my finances out which comes first.

Right an update and really really happy with basically a relatively easy mod namely -removing the helper springs and fitting m3 evo top mounts thanks to me old mate lenny with the stanceworks e36 328 on here and disco stu helping on the phone with excellent advise as always.

Recently i decided that i wanted the best of both worlds so slammed at shows and better everyday handling or track days yet always felt the front needed more lows to really get the look i wanted so as i raised the rear for more rake or nose down as some know it as and the only way to do this was dump the helper springs on the coilovers to give me the extra drop required(disco stu also has this done in the past)yet still have a safe ride and also better adjustability.
As i have bought some m3 evo top mounts we decided to reverse mount them(lenny was not sure at first but i persuaded him it will work)i took some pointers from drifting threads as they do for extra -3 deg camber and some castor for more front end grip and the car handles so much nicer now and seems quicker on turn ins:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

basically right goes on left and left onto right-hence reverse mounted

Car is actually 2 inches higher than before due to work purposes as ive started my new job and certain locations are proving too tricky to park so i will drop it before dc13 and show more pics but as said ride seems better and ride quality i think has improved and the front camber is insane compared to before but will leave the pics for now till im happy with the look:):):):)

Gone 15mm lower than before and helpers binned.probably less than 3/4 of an inch left to go but tried maxed out and sent sparks down everywhere and fuel filter took a knock.

Photobucket been an ass atm.blue is love/**** and im known for not following the rules in the uk forums so wanted a change from the normal silver wheel. Will change again soon no doubt lol

Been trying something and me being me ive changed it to be different from everyone else.
I agree the blue 68s are clashing with the ambers so had an old set of clears I cleaned up and fitted them instead and kept the yellow tinted main beam lenses. Eagle eyed people will notice instead of using white 501 bulbs I used orange and gives a menacing glow now on side lights.
Thoughts?
