Its a mk3 gti lip

But would it be a 'bad' idea to rust them out then clearcoat them? The thought has been crossing my mind for awhile for some reason. Im not sure why.

No one rusts centers of wheels because most wheels worth doing anything to are made of aluminum or magnesium... which doesnt rust

No one rusts centers of wheels because most wheels worth doing anything to are made of aluminum or magnesium... which doesnt rust

As has been mentioned, aluminum doesn't really "rust" as much as just oxidize...but you could always paint the centers with reactive metal paint to give it a steel finish that would eventually rust in the elements.

wheels are also a bit more critical to the operation of a car than a hood or some body panels. just my $.02

As has been stated, aluminum (wheel material) can't rust. It oxidizes, but when it oxidizes, it actually seals itself from further oxidization so it won't effect the critical operation of wheels.
