215/40?

Tyrestretch only has like two pictures and I'm unable to determine what tire it is.

Or would a 215/35 be better?

either would be fine.. it depends on the car so I don't know which would be best

I have a 215/40 on my 18x9's and its a pretty decent stretch. I guess it all depends on how much poke your gonna have.

I can put some pics up later tonight of a 18x9 w. 215 35 Falken 512s if you want.

Its a GOOD bit of stretch, but works well if you're low enough to pull it off

Yeah pics would be great. I have found a few out there on the internet with some creative searching (I wish people were better at labeling their images).

I'll post those later too, they are on my computer at home and I'm in class :rofl

Thanks for the pic, but it would be great if people can post some of tires that are still available.

The 512 has been discontinued for over a year... are you sure they are in stock or does their website just say they are?

Onlinetires still says they have 155/55R14 Federal FD1s in stock but they haven't had any since March this year and last I heard from their salesperson on the phone is that Federal has discontinued them.

These are not my pics so credits to whoever took em.

This is supposedly a 215/40R18 Falken 912 on an 18x9. I dont have a problem buying these, but I want to see if there are (I know there are) other brands out there being stretched on an 18x9.

The whole "discontinued" thing was a rumor. Falken is still producing them. It's just that they have an agreement now with discountire so that they can be the only distributor of the 512's. I've ordered two sets from them in the past year. They keep replenishing inventory. :)

Hmmmm... well is that's true then that kind of sucks. It means that they can just charge what ever price they want for the stupid things if nobody else stocks them.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 512. I went through multiple sets on my MK3 a few years back. Personally I think they wear way too fast though.

I will look into the website you posted a little more.

Has anyone tried the SS595? I know that they VIP guys use this tire all the time.

i stretch tires on a daily basis and id recommend a 215/35 for a light but hard stretch and a 205/40 for a mean stretch

They probably have some agreement/restriction on the pricing to keep it fair. The prices for the 512's are still pretty cheap. I paid like $73 a tire for my 205/40/16's. The 215/40/18 are $125 and $105 for the 215/35/18

dont go down to a 35, not enough sidewall, i had a 215/40 falken 452 on an 18x8.5 and it was a pretty decent amount of stretch.

whats the offset of the wheel and what suspension are you gonna use?

dont go down to a 35

One of my main reasons for starting the thread, I don't think that a 35 sidewall will look right on a big car.

TSW holstens, offset is 45... but I'll be getting some spacers made to get the wheels sitting at least flush with the fenders but thats only after I get the wheels and tires mocked up to see how far I can push the wheels out to keep rubbing to a minimum while still being low.

Suspension is KW variant 1.

Look what I found... Falken 512 215/40 on TSW Holsten 18x9

Maybe it's worth the extra money :)
Would still like to see how some other brands stretch though in the 215/40 size, like federals, fuzions, etc...

I would like to see pics too - I am currently running 18x9" OZ Mitos on 225/40 tires.

http://i47.tinypic.com/sghhrn.jpg

It's a mild stretch but I want to go waaay more aggressive.. I have too much tire atm to run the spacers+drop I want. love the look of the 215/40's but they're an uncommon size - what are the definite brands I should look into?

BTW: first post. I'm more of a lurker until my car gets stanced. :shifty:cool

I'd say 205/40 or 215/40 are the way to go. 35 series is gonna require a really serious drop otherwise they look tiny and really out of proportion with the rest of the car

215/35 on a 9.5 and on coilovers
